Learning a language

Can anyone speak another lanaguage? Fancy learning one, preferbly Spanish, anyone any tips?
I can speak Thai fluently after having lived in Bangkok for five years. Probably not the sort of tip you were looking for though!

When I was 15 me and my dad had a Spanish tutor come to the house every Friday. We wanted to be prepared for when we moved to Lanzarote...only I didnt go anyway lol I would love to be able to speak Spanish fluently and one day I will give it another go!

Anyway, on to a tip that Spanish tutor gave me. Record yourself whilst you are learning and then listen to it over and over until it sets in. She learnt three languages this way, about 9 months for each to become fluent. You could say she was a bit obsessive but it worked. Unfortunately I never took her advice and can only speak broken bits of Spanish!

That Rosetta stone thingymajig works pretty well. Work set up an online thing to use and it is really easy to follow. I can now ask any french person for directions to the bus station.

That software cost hundreds of pounds. I had a look online when it was being advertised a few months ago!

Flemish
English
French
German

It's an advantage to have a motherlanguage (flemish) that is only spoken by 20 million people worldwide, so at school we need to learn many other languages. Good thing here is that they don't dub foreign tv-series, means you're confronted with the foreign language, probably the reason why we, unlike germans, french etc... people don't have heavy accents when we speak other languages.

Je parle un peu l'francais

Ich Spreche Deutsche

i know a bit of french and a bit of german, learning french now though

if anyone wants to learn I suggest Michel Thomas's CD's what a great teacher he is

I downloaded some podcasts to learn basic Spanish. Worked quite well - can probably e-mail them across if anybody wants them (35lessons).

I wish I'd learned Latin as a kid (but Comps in Stockport don't tend to teach it !) with a decent grounding in Latin most European languages would be a doddle
