A mate of mine who used to be at a then non-league club, now in League Two, played against him in a pre-season friendly when Hughes was at West Brom and had been banished to train with the reserves for some misdemeanor or other.
Said he was the biggest gobshite he has ever shared a football pitch with. Anyone who dared to tackle him was insulted as 'small time tramps' while he droned on constantly about how much money he was on a week compared to the opposition.
He ended up having to be subbed for his own protection as a 'bounty' of a tenner a man for whoever could put him on a stretcher was agreed by the non-league players in the dressing room at half time.
