Leeds (H) game 6th May / Coronation Day

The blackout is to protect PL and EFL games being played live at the same time. - There are no PL or EFL games scheduled for coronation day as they've all been moved.
As it happens the EFL are looking to end the blackout so more games canbe broadcast, but that won't happen until 2024-25 season.

I’m aware of the reasons and I’m broadly speaking in favour.

But as far as I know it’s a hard and fast rule that hasn’t been broken in decades, ignoring lockdown. And now it’s been broken at least three times in a year.

And there are several Premier League games scheduled for the exact same time as the Leeds game. There were also matches still going on on Saturday when we kicked off.

Just an observation, that once you start looking for reasons to break a rule, scrapping it altogether is often not far behind.

A little known fact about the blackout rule is that it requires 50 per cent of matches in England’s top two divisions to kick off at 3pm for it to come into effect. Given that there are no EFL games at all on May 6, we haven't, in theory, actually broken it this time. And only four PL games kick off at that time including ours.

I have a crazy solution that just might solve many problems: cancel the coronation.

Millions of pounds saved, police and civilians not inconvenienced and/or put in danger, massive societal disruption averted, games go on as normal.

Job done.
Yeah but then they'd cancel the bank holiday

Is this actually Coronation Day then?

Fantastic news, you'd go a long way to find someone as anti royalist as me....I passed on meeting the Queen about 25 years ago and demanded to watch the phones in work, I sit down at Wembley for the anthem etc.

I can be out most of the day with a 90+ mins each way drive to the game & my music on in the car.
