Same here, my nana was a Yorkie and got me my first football kit as a boy, she used to put pieces of ribbon in my sock turnovers to match her hero’s. Then my mum got me a Wolves ‘seconds’ top from the Umbro factory rejects bin and Leeds were dead to me. I’m the original glory hunter.
 
Always been perplexed at how Leeds United have been able to market themselves as the Yorkshire club. They were only formed in 1919 and have spent less than half of their history (50 seasons) in the top tier. Wonder how that sits with the supporters of the other Yorkshire clubs?

I know for a fact that Bradford City and Huddersfield Town supporters - not surprisingly - absolutely detest dirty Leeds.

After yesterday, it’s clear for all to see that dirty Leeds is alive and kicking.

Literally.

Tis true though. Always smart, shirt and tie. In the REME during the war, did Arnhem (part 2) lovely bloke proper gentleman. In his later years I used to take him to Elland Road when we played them.

Just remembered this story. As it says above Leeds were my second team.
At secondary school there was this teacher who was a hero to all of the kids. He was a dipper. In 1974 ? Liverpool played Leeds in the fa Cup final. We were a manc school but he persuaded everyone to support the dips. Even me, my grandad was not amused.
The point is, even then they were a cult, why would you brainwash 14yr olds even for just one match ? A 'cool' teacher back then had so much sway. Mr Downs, Wellacre Secondary. Get fucked.

I always feel the right outcome has prevailed when a player, intent on maiming and putting out a player for the game and/or the rest of the season, becomes a 'victim' of his own thuggery. What justice, heaven-sent, and meted out by his own hand, or was it foot!

Well it's no different to the rags or red dippers thinking they own a region.

The difference in Yorkshire is the other clubs are currently small enough that their voice doesn't really travel.

I also think the fanbase tries to embolden it because they do have to fight for local loyalty against rags/dippers armchair fandom. You only have to look at the likes of Hull and Huddersfield to see hos you can lose a third of your potential fanbase if your team languishes in the 2nd tier for any period as the casuals will spend their money attaching to "glory" instead.
 
Those two see themselves as ‘global brands’ but I can never recall them claiming to represent Lancashire or Merseyside. Just find it a strange claim and wonder if it would continue if Leeds survived and Huddersfield were promoted.

Well it's scale. They consider themselves to be the only 2 clubs worthy of trophies and everyone else should support their endeavours and move aside for them.

Huddersfield/Leeds gets tasty but Town are much too small. They're like the City the world forgot. Leeds dominate till you reach Sheffield.

Leeds United were formed from the ashes of Leeds City with the chairman of Huddersfield Town loaning them the money. I think they then moved to Leeds, so for that reason alone Town fans have no love for them.

Me personally my older brother is a Leeds fan and me being from West Yorkshire I admit I should be too. I was taken to lots of games a child but it never felt like my team.

When I got to 16 a knew some older lads that followed Wednesday so started tagging along and this did feel like my team.

For me Wednesday Vs United will always be the game that matters, although only really knowing 1 blade if we lose I don't get that level of abuse as someone from Sheffield. I suppose that's why beating Leeds is nice.
