There is no hype about them being a sleeping giant, they are still a big club, and one of the games sleeping giants as Wednesday are. Leeds is a one club City and Leeds fans have had it very grim for years. If/when they get in the premier league Elland road would be packed every other week. If they had stability with signs of getting back to where were in the late 60s-early to mid 70s then they would probably be able to pull 50k each home league game.

I remember them winning the league and FA cup as a young kid. Don Revvie's Leeds were dirty bastards but a great side, far better than anything I can remember Wednesday doing or being. - Harvey, Reaney, Cherry, Bremner, McQueen, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Jordan, Gray, Madeley, Giles.

They all could play and I've never been fond of Leeds but they were a good side back in the day.

Wednesday may have a bigger stadium, but Leeds are more famous worldwide than Wednesday are. Last time Wednesday won anything of note Methusalah was a lad.
Not just a one city club, they are surrounded by towns without teams, or higher league teams, e.g. Wakefield, Harrogate, castleford, York, Scarborough etc. Potentially a huge fan base.

Haha, no worries!

My Dad has always reminded me of this game against Leeds:

Where he got seperated from everyone and realised he was on the wrong side of a fence and was with all the Leeds fans. He tried to keep a low profile but said there was no way he was blending in with them as they all looked like tramps and he had a Harrington jacket, sta-press trousers and brogues on... he got absolutely filled in, had to go to hospital!

Said after he'd been seen in hospital there were still loads of Blues about and stories of "we've just run about 200 of them off down there!" "oh, we got twatted off about 50 of them down the other direction"

When he got on the train there were no windows on the train and had to sit on there as it went through the Pennines in early January - FREEZING winds howling through the train!

He's hated Leeds ever since, even hates their rugby league team when they're on! In fact i'm going round to watch the Wakey v Leeds rugby game tonight at his so i'll kick up the conversation about that FA Cup game, always stirs some bitterness in him - "tell you what, other than United, i fucking hate Leeds" - me Mam will be moaning that i've got him going about it again, haha

Too bloody right. I hate Leeds too.
It was an unbelievable end and aftermath to that game. Every coach that left the coach park did so in a hail of stones and bricks. The Bullocks coach i was on had 2 pains of glass taken out and the journey back to Cheadle over the Pennines was damp and effing freezing.
My one abiding memory is the West Yorkshire constabulary's footware - a Doc Maritain like sole topped with what resembled a rubber welly - it made them look like knobs.

They need that for keeping the sheep captive. It IS in Yaarkshaar remember.

Bournemouth still play at Dean Court. Like CoMS, it’s changed its name for sponsorship reasons.

I’d rather see any club in the Premier League than dirty Leeds, with the exception of the rags and the buswreckers.
I know, hence me writing renevated and renamed. They are a small time club playing big league football.

Leeds on the other hand are a big club with potential to become a really big club. Ok the club and supporters are forever tarnished with bad reputation through Don Revvie's 'dirty Leeds' and supporters who were amongst the first clubs to gave our domestic and national game a bad reputation through hooliganism. Leeds still evoke ill feelings amongst many old enough to remember on here and throughout the UK, and i remember some tasty battles between us, but that was in the past, and the game has moved on from those days for the better, as visiting football stadia is far safer than it was was ever was then, especially for women and kids.

Going to Leeds in the late 60s(I was too young to go then) 70's until around mid 80s, was like a warzone, a scary place when not in numbers. Yorkshire Police often turned a blind eye to away fans getting attacked and coaches trashed. I have a few ex workmates who are from Leeds and all over Yorkshire, and they have almost as many from Doncaster who follow them as they do Donny rovers fans. I'd like to see them back in the big time as i would a few other big clubs like Wednesday and Forest, Derby too. Bournemouth can fuck off back to obscurity for me as can a few other clubs, Watford and Brighton spring to mind.

Tbf it was no different in the 90s or noughties, a lot of Leeds fans are ****s and will attack anyone and everyone, the modern day era passed Yorkshire by.

I agree, they still have a larger than average scum element(pro rata) amongst them than most clubs, and many of those sad bastards old enough to have been there at the time still go looking for bother. And the younger generation, brainwashed into being hooligan morons by their moronic fathers want to kick off as soon as look at away fans. But we still have a few morons ourselves, albeit in much smaller numbers than dirty Leeds. I still remember seeing them trying to set the Shell garage on Wilsmslow rd alight. And young local black lads would ride around on their grifters and choppers as hooli spotters to inform us of away fans whereabouts. Leeds fans of around 30-40 cockily marched up towards Maine rd singing 'Marching all together', soon to be ambushed by City hoolies waiting in ambush behind a gable end near the club shop. They tried to leg it all together, but most got a good kicking that day.

They got us back several times though Squirty at theirs as I'm sure you remember not too fondly. I don't yearn for those dark days to return but I would like to see them get back into the big time, as they have been in the football wilderness considerably longer than we were, and that's saying something.

One year in the late 70s they didn't turn up. The away section in the Kippax was full of City waiting for them but it was a no show.

I concur. They have a bigger fanbase than many seem to realise, probably from being too young to remember how big a club they were, or those not born then have no idea just how big they were and potentially how big Leeds could become, and they could huge with the right investment and boardroom stability. But they have fucked up for years there, and many stay away still bitter over Bates and Risdale shafting them. if the club and owner Andrea Radrizzani wants to return to the big time, he/they will need a huge slice of luck, some good investment and a consistency with management. I can see that happening myself, It's only a matter of time before they do get it right on the field.
