The police were no better; Mrs Vienna told me about one visit to Elland Road, the City supporters were locked in for around 20 minutes after the end of the game. Meanwhile, Leeds supporters gathered on the way back to the coach park, and ambushed Blues with bricks and stones.

She found a young lad, who’d become separated from his dad. When she mentioned it to a dibble, he told her to, "Fuck off!"

So she took him back to the coach park, where he eventually found his distraught parent.

Just watched that. I've got to admit it does look fixed. He has his hands there and takes them away. Very weird.

But it's not what shocked me. What shocked me was seeing certain stands in the Stadium of Light hugely empty — I've never seen the Etihad even close to being as empty as that five minutes from the end of a key match against a big promotion rival. We complain about early leavers but we've got nothing on the mackems, it would seem.

I've mentioned it before; any time that Sunderland are on the telly in a home game, you can guarantee there'll be lots of empty seats visible. Ditto Middlesbrough. That myth about the north east being a hotbed of football is just that; a myth. Only Newcastle seem to sell out, and us FOCs remember the era before Keegan turned up the first time, in the early 80s.

Couldn’t have been more wrong, he said he and loads of his mates love watching City.
