Leeds United (A) Post Match Thread

That's where Sane has been missed and will be missed now he's gone. He'd take his man on out wide, then provide service and or drag defenders out. At the moment we don't have that option with Sterling on the left he generally has to come inside, he scored a cracker yesterday but we more often the not end up all clogged up in attack. I think Torres in time can help with this.

We are suffering from a lack of pre season, injuries, and failure to address the left back issue in the window. I think Dias will be a great buy with Laporte in defence, unless Ake goes to left back we still have a issue there.

I personally think we need to do more than that, with left back being such a big issue I don't understand why we are buying countless right backs for the youth teams.

Mahrez for all his technical abilities just simply doesn't fit our style, we should have sold him and signed a left footed winger and moved Raz back to the right.

Past Kev we have noone that you feel confident as a starter week in week out in midfield, are possession and midfield dominance is declining. Yes we have Phil but he's still young and needs to improve. Gundo and Rodri are too passive and Dinho is not still better at 35. Bernardo is our only hope.

If we manage to finish any better than 4th we will have done well with this squad

Not having that mate a top class manager with motivated players would look at that squad assess any weaknesses and be pretty positive a good season could be had.

In my opinion anything below 2nd in the league is poor with that squad. Not every team has a great left back or a top class CDM.

In any walk of life a good manager accepts certain weaknesses and overcomes them. If everything was perfect we wouldn’t need a manager at all. It’s the biggest part of his/her job.

A little bit too much is made from Leeds clear chances. We had great chances too, Torres in the first half, Sterling and Bernardo in the 2nd, could have had 1-2 penalties, and had about 5-6 half chances. Teams often score from half chances. We could/should have been 2 up before Leeds had any chance.

i'm convinced jesus or serge in the team last night and we win that game

Rodgers is spot on.
That's why I can't understand why we don't use the advantage of being up 1-0 and frustrate THEM by sitting back and let THEM open up against their match plan.
If we want 3 points we have to be smarter.

Pep has to learn a lot. But he doesn't really, if I'm honest.

Yep Arteta is more pragmatic we are all out attack everyone in the opposition half. What I don’t understand is why can’t we play the great football passing and movement in our own half occasionally? It will make other managers think differently

He is a magnificent player, but is a player becoming more and more frustrated with each game.

The Lyon game affected KDB so much, I think he is seriously starting to doubt his manager and tactics.
The lad is flogging himself to death trying to get us over the line. We are playing a dangerous game with him physically and mentally. Others need to take up some of the slack.

yep agree, he looked bollocksed last night, nothing went for him and gave away/lost the ball more than i've ever seen him do

I’ve read nearly every comment here. I am a bit shocked. As stated before City have had no pre season, a huge injury list. 2 key forwards Injured. Sane leaving, Merlin retiring. 3 new signings to bed in. Dreadful weather conditions yesterday. its disappointing for sure, but not the end of the world.
As for the match against Leeds, personally I really enjoyed the game. Both sides gave everything. It was a real battle, fast and furious. Our new Defender Ruben Dias put in a solid performance and alongside Laporte will be one of the best defensive partnerships in the league. Mendy defensively is an issue. Hopefully Cancello can be ready for next league game. We are missing 2 great Strikers as well.
There is a long way to go and the amount of bed wetting and self entitlement makes me squirm with embarrassment. Collectively we are better than this. Get behind the team!!

Apart from a full moon you managed all the excuses there mate:-)

Completely agree with this "In any walk of life a good manager accepts certain weaknesses and overcomes them. If everything was perfect we wouldn’t need a manager at all. It’s the biggest part of his/her job."

But would you agree that last season our manager did not overcome our obvious weakness?

Like a player who has a poor season so do managers and pep was very poor last year and has continued in the same vein this year. A player regaining his form is much easier a problem though.

For me his ideas are becoming less effective and the players are looking stale. He does have form for this. The most obvious answer isn’t something the majority want to see

By 'great team' i put more emphasis on 'team'. They don't have to be packed with superstars or have a cabinet full of silver. Eleven men, playing together as a tight unit, running for each other, and themselves into the ground that stick to the plan.
Every time Leeds went forward they had 5, 6, 7 players around our box very quickly. Defensivly they were the same.
Leeds were very unlucky not to get a point in scouseland and i'll guarantee they will take points off all the top sides this season if they continue as they've started.

Like I said tactically excellent and Bielsa’s game management was excellent throughout the game. Substitutions made to impact the game, not just for the sake of it.

Not happy Rodgers laying it out like that for others to learn and follow the same.

Its like, hey guys I found Pep out here is the recipe for you to follow and frustrate them.

Pep needs to rewatch Leicester and Leeds games and come up with plans to stop the rot.
They did work harder and they had more of a plan how to restrict us and punish us at the back than we had for restricting them and punish them at the back.

Think Rogers might have other things on his mind right now

Arsenal next. Arsenal play exactly like Leicester now against the the top 6, sit back and counter with aubameyang, Willian and lacazette its going to be hard since we struggle against these tactics. If they do that sit back and counter we are in trouble they did it in the fa cup and it worked I'm afraid it might do it again

To be fair we were worked out and buses parked long before Leicester last week.

Get the players fit and press as a team, if not we will never be able to reach the standards set in previous years.

The whole playing staff needs a serious kick up the ass, any player not willing to press and run their bollox off should not be selected no matter their reputation or price tag. Far too many passengers not delivering the goods.

Reset and back to basics needed.

This is what we used to do under Mancini and it was glorious!
