Leeds United (A) Post Match Thread

Save your idiotic and childish behaviour for other stuff you twat. If you have a problem with other posters opinion, argue logically or shut the feck up
You can fuck off as well you prick, I was referring to the teams performance. Youve probably never even been to the Etihad

Some very insightful comments from Rodgers today in response to Rodri saying Leicester were lucky last week...

"You think you're Man City and you're playing little old Leicester and we've won 5-2.

"Rodri, I'm a big fan of, I think he's a wonderful player. But I think people want us to go and play a game that allows them to open us up and win 5-0!

"We played, but we didn't play how City would want us to play. I can understand, if you have the ball for that length of time and you don't create what you're expected to create. And when the opposition you are playing are very dangerous in their game and play with courage, then, of course, it can be a little frustrating.

"The game was about denying space to the opponent. More times than not my team will try and deny space at the top end of the field.

"My strategy in this match (against City) was to take the game into our own half, make sure you were compact.

"We ran 9 and half kilometres more as a team than Manchester City. We had to work, we had to be compact, we had to be tight.

"When we broke through their pressure, we were always a threat. I thought we played we great maturity and confidence."
Fair points well made

In essence, Rodri is fine when teams don't press and allow him to just sit and pass. Put pressure on him and he goes missing.

City have one way of playing and we've been sussed.

Sit back and hit us on the break as most of the team are bypassed by one long ball.
It's such a simple thing and happens time and time again. For all Peps genius he still hasn't sussed out how to stop it. To be fair we're usually a couple of goals to the good most times so it doesn't matter but lately we don't have a cushion and we're being exposed and it's costing us. We need to get back to being quicker around the opposition box. More incisive in our passing. Quicker to get shots off. Everything seems to be a walking pace these days. And then we're caught on the break and done for. Or caught at set pieces again. Teams don't fear us and we no longer seem to have the high intensity to grind them down so they know they will always get a chance or two and the sad thing is lately that's enough.

The worry is that it wasn't a long ball, the played though us with pace and precision and we couldn't do anything to stop it.

We also can't break with pace like we used too, too many times the ball breaks to our wide forwards and the stop and play back.
They don't try to beat the man anymore

Not happy Rodgers laying it out like that for others to learn and follow the same.

Its like, hey guys I found Pep out here is the recipe for you to follow and frustrate them.

Pep needs to rewatch Leicester and Leeds games and come up with plans to stop the rot.
They did work harder and they had more of a plan how to restrict us and punish us at the back than we had for restricting them and punish them at the back.

That's where Sane has been missed and will be missed now he's gone. He'd take his man on out wide, then provide service and or drag defenders out. At the moment we don't have that option with Sterling on the left he generally has to come inside, he scored a cracker yesterday but we more often the not end up all clogged up in attack. I think Torres in time can help with this.

We are suffering from a lack of pre season, injuries, and failure to address the left back issue in the window. I think Dias will be a great buy with Laporte in defence, unless Ake goes to left back we still have a issue there.

...Foden and Mahrez were too peripheral, and it was only when Bernardo was introduced that we finally had a midfielder capable of passing the ball accurately at full speed.(De Bruyne was also poor)
Sterling tries too hard to win penalties, and frankly isn’t very good at it.
Gundogan looks better with every game that he doesn’t play, and dare I suggest that we’re missing his ball retention?
For me, the only plus marks were Rodri, Laporte, and Dias.
Good points mate.
I think that match at Leeds would have been perfect for Gundogan.

We always hate deep sitting teams like Wolves or Leicester who takes us apart on 2 or 3 counters.

Yesterday we had OPEN FIELD and we were bottling situation after situation, not able to find the easy pass. Honestly I didn't expect those weaknesses and it's difficult to explain.
Maybe the lads we too impressed by Leeds and all that glorification of Bielsa.

Anyway. I'm sure if Ilkay came on last night instead of Fern (who wasn't bad, just didn't have enough impact) KDB wouldn't have to do all the running but concentrate on the final pass. Open space for Ilkay would have been perfect for him.

I’m sorry but we only drew that game from a farce of a corner that never should’ve been.

You are forgetting that Leeds had the by far the better chances. Eddie kept us in the game. A draw was completely the right and fair outcome over 90 mins.

Our problem is fitness and injuries. No question about it.. we can’t sustain our game for 45 mins yet, let alone 90mins. We are playing second fiddle to everyone we play in terms of energy due to little rest and absolutely zero pre season. TBH the same applies to the Rags..

I feel more positive this morning. we have been dealt a tough hand to start the season for sure and we will need to really get purring to win it but yesterday was the first time in ages where I felt confident that we had a very, very good centre back partnership. It just looked “right”.

They did work harder and they had more of a plan how to restrict us and punish us at the back than we had for restricting them and punish them at the back.

Our next manager needs to be more pragmatic yep the club wants an identity of how we play as a club but rather have both defensively strong defend deep at times and you can still play good football.

Rodgers is spot on.
That's why I can't understand why we don't use the advantage of being up 1-0 and frustrate THEM by sitting back and let THEM open up against their match plan.
If we want 3 points we have to be smarter.

Pep has to learn a lot. But he doesn't really, if I'm honest.

I like your positivity. You are right about Dias and Laporte. I also thought Rodri was comfortable in front of them. Leeds were excellent and we mostly defended well against them. A lot of our fans seem to think we can just steamroller sides but this is a very competitive league this season. It was a fantastic game to watch and could have gone either way. I am not a happy clapper just someone who loves football.

A little bit too much is made from Leeds clear chances. We had great chances too, Torres in the first half, Sterling and Bernardo in the 2nd, could have had 1-2 penalties, and had about 5-6 half chances. Teams often score from half chances. We could/should have been 2 up before Leeds had any chance.

No but you are far from polite. Hope that swearing at me made you feel that little bit more of a man. Pathetic!! Going to find me and beat me up?? Easier to utter threats on a forum isn't it - you've done this before haven't you?
No, never.

But I’ve never had anyone question my loyalty.

I have just watched part of Pep's post match interview and he looks terrible. He doesn't look well at all and there was one minute where it was obvious he was suffering with his back. That man needs a good rest, not just a good sleep but an all out rest.

There is no animation in his voice, there is none of the Pep that we know, he is lack lustre, he is disinterested, he is not well.
Once again JMHO but I am concerned about him.

Problem is that after our last 2 league games, more + more opposition teams will gain confidence that if they can ride out the starting 20/25 mins of the match and keep the score down to 1-0 or 2-0 then they will get chances at the other end and due to our defensive fragility will they will be high quality chances. I feel that we try to blow teams away in the first half hour or so because we aren't confident in our defense and when that doesn't work we crumble.

What Brenda is saying isn’t new info though
