Bang on

Had the same discussion last night when looking at the front 6 on show.

Compare to what we have had.

Never rest on your laurels ad they say.

We have let a brilliant team age together.

You have to refresh every year, introduce someone younger and let go someone older.

We have let go young quality players and kept older crocks.
For whatever reason it seems to happen in all team sports. Look at Leeds and Bradford in RL, Saracens and Exeter in RU, Lancs in CC and across the road in Stretford. It does not make it palatable but somehow people take success for granted

I'm not sure it's taking success for granted, more about timing. If we'd have let KDB go, or Bernardo at the end of last season after 4 titles on the spin, and then collapsed like we have, the whole world would have been screaming "we let them go too soon". As many posters have said, this season is the price we pay for 4 in a row. And, in my view, we'll only be able to judge this season with hindsight. If we embark on another successful era, it will have been worth it, the important thing is that this isn't a long-term slump.

When I say people I am referring to those who run Clubs not the supporters. My big concern is that given the number of players we need to sign we seem no longer able to identify and sign real talent as opposed to those who need a considerable amount of coaching. As we are aware our coaching appears to be non-existent. Doku is now approaching the end of his 2nd season and yet is still repeating the same issues

I know, hopefully will grow out of it but I have noticed it.

Rarely see our players berate or disappointed with a team mate.

We've had a tremendous team spirit over the last few years which has got us over the line, it needs to continue.
Everything is a bit flat this season. The team, the manager and the fans. Pep’s passion still shone through at Bournemouth though which was good to see.

It's called having standards mate. Some blues are just happy to be here and still have a 90s mentality. That is fine and admirable. Others, who was there in the 90s too are wondering how still with a wealth of talent on the pitch, with the best manager in the game leading them can, churn out boring tedious displays. We are all happy with a win of course, I said before we take it and we move on. Doesn't fill you with hope long term though does it.

Who knows what the long term future brings. Nothing we can do about it anyway. These guys have reached unprecedented levels and there’s an inevitable mental and physical drop off. I can deal with that. I don’t expect standards, we have no right to expect anything. There are 92 professional clubs competing and spending with the dream of having 12 months of a fraction of what we have had 8 years of. We don’t deserve it any more than them. Treat success and failure as the imposters they are. Celebrate the good times, shrug at the bad. And It’s nowhere near bad now. Why turn up and get angry because we’re spoilt with expectations. These are halcyon days. Even now. That will become stark one day.

There was a bloke a few rows behind me who sounded like he was gonna give himself an aneurysm during the second half. Right at the end, when McAtee ran through and Savinho slipped, he screeched at the top of his lungs "OH MY GOD, SOMEONE HAVE A FUCKING SHOT!!!!!" There was another moment when Marmoush went after a lost cause, won it, and kept possession by nudging it back to Nunes - he got a big round of applause for his effort. The bloke's response was to shout "Why are you all clapping that? Don't applaud him for passing backwards!" And when the board went up for three added minutes he complained about us being forced to watch the game, as if he was strapped to his seat and couldn't fuck off whenever he liked. He's sat behind me for 15 years and has done nothing but complain ever since he first arrived. Me and my mum still call him Vieira Man because that was the first thing we ever heard him shout - "Ohhhh Vieira, man" - while having a moan about something Patrick Vieira had done wrong. He's spent years yelling at Joe Hart, Costel Pantilimon, Willy Caballero, Claudio Bravo, Ederson, Zack Steffen, and Stefan Ortega to "CATCH IT!" whenever they punch it clear. I wouldn't mind but I've never once heard him compliment any of the players, I've never seen him celebrating goals as wildly as he chastises mistakes, and through all the trophies we've won I've never heard him express his delight... at anything. Every game I try to tell myself, "Maybe he's just had a bad week". I'm starting to think he's just an angry misanthrope who takes his aggrievances out on his football team. It stops me from saying anything to him.
No one's said anything to him after all these years ?

Don't think McAtee has got what it takes to make it at City but I've still got faith in Lewis and O'Reilly. But still, having all three of them on the pitch felt brilliant last night. And without Haaland, De Bruyne, and Rodri, last night felt like a big vision of the future. With Savinho, Doku, Marmoush, O'Reilly, etc. in the XI, there were lots of untested partnerships on the pitch last night and we got through the game in second gear while getting a little glimpse at years to come. Reis coming on at the end definitely added to that feeling as well, even if he didn't touch the ball.
He headed it :)

Personally I don’t see us winning leagues and CL’s again with Doku and Savinho both in the side. Maybe the latter would have been introduced more slowly had Foden not been so off form and we didn’t have injuries every game. Both are frustrating.

We need a great summer to replace the players that are past it and add some quality. This squad looks weak compared to previous ones

Spot on they're not at the elite level, not do I ever think they will be. Decent squad players yes. Look at the goals and assists Mahrez and Sterling chipped in with, those two are never going to hit those levels. Then we have Phillips and Nunez, almost 100 million wasted in those two. One is finished here and the other I would presume will be shifted on as soon as we get a buyer. It's too early yet to judge Nico and Marmoush. In my opinion we need six absolute top quality players to start challenging at the very top again.

Would love to know how many of those south stand heroes would say that to Vardy's face if they met him in the street or a pub
By the same token, I wonder if Vardy would boot somebody like he did to Marmoush if he met them in the street or a pub.

If you dish it out, you’ll likely get a response.

Didn’t know that

Savinho has more control and balance.. Doku will get badly injured sadly, quick feet but his lack of balance makes him lose control sometines and then has to force it to regain control.. so many 50 / 50's he is inviting. Savinho could be amazing..if he had a bit more steel..mentally i think

Maybe he will toughen up a bit. He is a bit of a fanny!
