The problem is his lack of pace. He does okay against not particularly quick forwards, but against ones with pace, like Vardy, he gets exposed. He also looks flaky when put under pressure.
But that's where the manager has to do better IMO.
No matter what Pep does he isn't going to turn Kolarov into a speed merchant.
A manager should plan his tactics so our slower players are not exposed against the oppositions fastest. You can bet your bottom dollar that Conte and Ranieri would have been instructing Hazard and Vardy to get at Kolarov and in both games, these players waltzed passed him and scored via a 1-on-1 with Bravo.
It's very similar to Pellegrini persisting with playing Yaya in a 2 man midfield when he no longer has the legs.
