Leicester (N) - Community Shield | Post-Match Thread

Bit of a borefest tbh. Very rusty, poor passing and shooting. Defending dodgy throughout, no surprise when a crass error settled it. Onwards and upwards.
You could tell in the first 10 mins although the second half improved, granted it would have difficult not too.....TBF that was LCFCs first team and ours was a more a hit and miss affair, I'd not heard of half that team.......

All I've seen on socialmedia recently is how city have 2 teams. Today proved we don't. Our 2nd XI would not get top 6. The sooner the English lads gets back the
Pep admitted we had a poor pre-season last year and the team didnt get going until December , expect much the same this season , we will apply the after burners after xmas and win 20 on the bounce.
I think so too. Too many doom merchants on here. A league win and more finals to come

With how last season ended I really saw this as an opportunity to get the positive feeling back at the club. It may not be prestigious trophy but professional footballers love winning especially when there is a trophy on offer.
The season ended with us winning the hardest to win domestic league in world football but the club needed to win the Community Shield to have something to feel positive about???

Did you see the vardy chance before half time? Or the Perez chance just before? He’s woeful defensively
He was out of position a couple of times. After half time he tightened up. His passing and crossing was excellent all game - I noticed that too. Plenty of others contributed much less than he did today.

Lost 4 of last 6 games!

CRISIS!!!!

;-)

Considering that was against their starting line-up, it was a bit dire.

We couldn’t get any attacking going, and the game got bogged down by poor passing g in the midfield.

They clearly had the better chances, but didn’t really trouble us too much.

With about 8 regular starters missing against their First XI, it was all a bit meh.

Hate to lose it in the last few minutes to a pen, caused by a mistake from a player who was one of the brighter lights, but them’s the breaks!

Told my son that Itchy would score the winner against us when he was coming on, as old boys often seem to come back to haunt us. But, after his terrible miss in the “Don’t shoot, Vinny” game, I’ll give him this one! ;-)

Sunday against Spurs is going to be “interesting,” Yo say the least! Pep has some work to do, and if anyone doesn’t come back raring to go this week, they’ll be hell to pay!

Should have “full strength” team ready to go by Sunday, even if we miss KDB & Foden, but will need all 3 subs based on “time in legs”!

yeah, rush them back after the most condensed season ever and then whinge when they're out for 2/3 months with muscle injuries.
A week before the season starts after several weeks off is hardly rushing them back. Its also the reason we have two players for almost every position.

I

Last 15 minutes a mistake either end was going to settle it. Though I hate losing, I have to say I quite enjoyed the game overall, warts and all. In terms of personnel, we saw in the second half two teams we're never going to see again and it was interesting to watch some new faces perform. It means a lot more to them than it does to us, though if I were them I'd be a bit worried that their first team squad in the first half couldn't overcome our second string.

True but a game with
Mahrez
Gundog
Fernandinho
Dias
Cancelo
Torres
All starting with
Mendy
Ake

we hardly played our reserves, shows to me that the depth thats massively spoken of isn’t as great. Not just because of today but quite a few times last year the second we dropped a few players then the players coming in weren’t quite good enough. We won the league last year but I imagine ake and Torres actual win percentage when starting won’t be overly high. Gutted we lost as I always want to win, isn’t the end of the world though
Champions rarely win Community Shield! Usually the FA Cup winners!

Last Champions to win it were City, 2-0 vs Chelsea.

Thought bernardo was lively tbh, we might be making a mistake selling him and keeping Mahrez....

One is 26 and gives it his all every game, whilst the other is 30 he's got no-existent pace, just strolling around the pitch with such negative energy...
He did run onto a long ball, outsprinted their left back, but fluffed it once he'd positioned himself near the penalty spot. I think the ball took a bobble but that was our clearest chance that I can remember.

I was one writing us off when we were 10th or whatever after 8 games last season. Learned my lesson that City take time to get up to speed. I recall Everton were the early pacesetters last season - everyone was raving about Ancelotti, Calvert-Lewin and Rodriguez. Less than 12 months on Ancelotti has gone and Benitez has told Rodriguez he can leave.
