Leicester v City FA Cup Final 26 April 1969

Nearly 6 years old watching this game with me dad . City won and I've supported them ever since.
Does that make me a glory hunter?
Just shows you the influence of winning a trophy has on kids.
Imagine if Leicester won :)

The Pathe news reel didn't show the City goal. You should post this in the Media Discussion thread to show for just how many years the media have been negatively spinning reports on us!
I beg to differ. I could only listen on BFBS in Germany and it took months for it to come on the Pathe News on the local SKC but it did eventually arrive.

I was 14 at the time. Went down with my uncle and cousin in his Morris 1100, which seemed to take forever getting there and back.Fantastic day.thogh.
From what I can remember i queued outside maine road for ages to buy the ticket, as was the case for a lot of special games. I even queued outside the etihad.

I was 15 and was there on the day, I had been to every round of the FA Cup with the old fella. I attended every home match in the league and the vast majority of the aways when I did miss the away game I watched the reserves.

I remember queuing up around the ground for the final ticket. I think City’s share was 16,000 tickets. The ticket office window closed when there were 3 people in front of me in the queue. My old fella went on a mission to hunt down two tickets, he eventually got two off one of the coaches at Middlesboro for £50. I think my dad new another bloke who he worked with and it was his brother at Middlesboro who got them.

It was all worth it in the end as I watched Neil Young volley it into the net from a Buzzer cross.

I was 11 at the time. My dad and my Uncle Bill were both big Blues - my dad took me round to Bills house to watch it. My abiding memory is of my first taste of beer. They'd both got more progressively pissed, and as Tony Book went up to collect the cup they poured me a small glass and told me to 'get that down you'. I feckin' hated the taste !
Alas that is no longer the case....

I was at Leicester University! I couldn't get a ticket and came home to watch the match at my soon-to-be wife's home and then go into town to celebrate a cup win and my 21st birthday, which was the day after. What a week end! My son got me the DVD of the match a few years ago and it's amazing how precise my memories of the match were, despite a pulse rate of 120 for most of it! Great days, league title in '68, cup in '69 ans I was penniless and in Leicester for both.

In those days you needed to present numbered tokens printed in match programmes to buy a cup final ticket. You stuck them on a sheet. I was a couple of tokens short, so I cut the missing numbers out of the previous seasons programmes, when we won the league and prayed they wouldn’t be spotted in the busy ticket office. It worked - and ticket arrived in the post. Got home from school, tucked the ticket under a heavy mirror over our coal fire and sat on the sofa to admire it. Mam came in and the draught when she opened the door disturbed the ticket and I watched it waft down past the tiled mantelpiece and into the coal fire. Never moved so fast in my fucking life, stuck my hand in the fire and snatched the ticket - which had just slightly crisped down one side but still intact.
Went down to Wembley on Connolly’s coaches from Gorton and watched Buzzers goal and Tony Book lift the cup. Unforgettable day.

You were doing well until you were disrespectful to the muffin.

I remember the hi-tech vouchers well, I also seem to recall that the manager of the ticket office was called Mr White, his name was on the bottom of all official correspondence?

Neil Young scored the solitary goal, Mike Summerbee passed it to him.

First Final trip for me I was only five so no real memories of the day Hopefully a few older Bluemooners will be able to share their memories.

Can’t be true, we’ve got no history and got no fans

Got a ticket and went down to Wembley on the overnight coach. Arrived at about six o'clock and was delighted to find that the pubs in Covent Garden were open, allegedly for the benefit of market workers. Several pints later and a decent fry up was a good start to the day. Tour of Soho later - very informative - French lessons, tarts touting for business etc. Really enjoyed the game - we should have scored more than one though. Completed a nice set as the previous year I went to the Newcastle away game which clinched the 1st division championship.

Was on the Connollys coach that left late on the Friday night,Young scored.

The only way I could get a ticket was to pay over the odds. I shelled out a massive £5 for a ticket which really cost 12'6 (62p). Incredible to think of a Cup Final ticket priced at 62p!
Unfortunately, it meant I had to stand among the Leicester fans. When Neil Young scored, I somehow managed to suppress my delight, or else the Leicester mob might have lynched me.
It was worth it though for a great day out
(Anyone else remember Colin Bell missing a sitter when he headed a perfect Tony Coleman cross straight into the hands of Peter Shilton from about eight yards out?)

I was 8 at the time and had been to 3rd Round v Luton and 4th round replay v Newcastle ( on the day of the actual 4th round my grandad although a blue took me to Bolton v Bristol Rovers with a certain Gordon Taylor playing) then Blackburn away in the quarter Final and I seem to remember it being postponed on a number of occasions….wasn’t allowed to go to the Semi v Everton, although my dad did…..then he took me to the final with Fieldsend coaches…..sure it picked us up at Eccles Town Hall.
