But all I read in the Pogba thread that 100 mill for a 23 year old for one of the best going is far too much money yet £50 mill on a 29 year old is worth it? I suppose that's football now but its bloody mental
Careful lest you be called a rag for mentioning the ludicracy transfer fees.

I really can't get excited by these reports from Italy. First we were snubbed offering 38 million. Than the British media claims City has not offered a deal for this player. The next thing from Italy is that his agent is on the plaine to Manchester expecting a new bid of around 50 million. For a 29 year old defender. When we are also in for Stones who apperently should bring another 50 million paycheck to Everton while we have recently paid nearly 70 mill. for Mangala and Otamendi.
I know Sheik Mansour is a wealthy man, but it seems to me he is also a very clever business man. This however is hardly clever business. If I were Sheik Mansour (God if only ...) I'd say to Pep: >>Look, you say you are no magician, but I gather you are good enough to start improving the defence with what we have. I let you have Stones. As for Bonucchi, don't push it.<<

I have no problem paying big money for world class quality, paying big money for not so good quality has been our major problem.

I'd love both Stones and Bonucci but suspect the latter may prefer Chelsea. I think Mangala will be sold to Valencia. That will, with MDMs departure, free up two places. I also think, at times, we may play three at the back.

I've got a sinking feeling we are getting Ramos'ed. Bonucci probably just looking for a better deal at Juve. I'm hoping for the best. Just can't knack the feeling...

But then at the same time, why would Soriano and co speak to his agent if Bonucci would not be interested at all? But yeah, im also feeling bit pessmistic about this deal.

If Juve value him so highly and consider him untransferable then why do they need the kick of a transfer possibility to reward him?

I'll liken it to what just happened in the NBA. In Miami they had a 1-team player in Dwayne Wade who they wanted to re-sign on a decent contract but not reflective of how highly they regarded him. Other offers started coming in offering him more of what he was looking for, Miami tried to call his bluff thinking he wouldn't really consider other deals and he has since left to sign with a new team with more money.

Bonucci signed a 5 year contract less than a year ago.

Marotta will tell him to do one if he's after a better contract, he's already one of their highest earners.

that TMW article which says Bonucci's agent in Manchester, it also makes interesting claim that there have been "months of discreet negotiations" with his agent.

Imagine our defence if we sign Bonucci and Stones, and get Vinny's calf issue sorted, that would be some talent!
Stones would soak up so much from those 2, and under Pep's encouraging wing, go on to fulfil the talent we saw at the start of last season, ( before Martinez lost the plot)

His agent hasn't come to Manchester to call the bluff of Juventus. We have clearly made him an offer and his agent is very happy with it or has come over to finalise what the package would be, we just need to pay what Juve want to get the deal done.

I was thinking the same thing. He only signed a new contract last year. If City can come to an agreement with his agent and the player wants to come I think we'll pay what Juve are asking.

How many years can we realistically get out of him at CL level is my concern with such a "massive" fee.

Around 4 years I think
Hope so, hope he adapts to the pace of the PL week in week out and stays free of injuries too. I don't think we can justify going for Stones as well... we've spent too much to get a CB pairing sorted already to justify two more 50million signings. As someone else said we may have to settle for one and hope Pep can improve what's there already unless we can sell them on for a good fee, Mangala is young and has all the physical attributes to become a star it's the rest of his game which is harder to teach that needs to improve(mental, intuition, reading the game).

Would be a great signing. Not sure why some think that fee is too much for a 29 year old, I'd rather spend the money on a player at his peak than another inexperienced CB, we have enough of those.
