The funny thing about this signing is that while it's good from a football perspective (as is Pogba to utd) it is vastly over priced (as is Pogba to utd) do it'll make most fans happy but a very few will be denied their stick to hit utd with regarding the Pogba deal. :-)

They have either acted already, starting ages ago & are still acting or won't be acting at all. They won't be starting now.

Sorry. I'm meant to say that City need to act decisively right now.

You are right. City pitched in weeks ago but now need to act with Bayern like efficiency in closing this deal.

You see I've never quite seen this reasoning over the long term regards overspending. We are, consistently (and the PL in general) quoted large amounts for players and we do seemingly often loose out to the likes of Bayern-Juve-Real and Barca. No matter how often we turn away from a deal, whether it be Isco, Hazard etc we are still quoted high fee's - not paying them isn't changing the fact we are being quoted high figures. We don't have the pedigree the aforementioned clubs have to attract the players, and I think this goes a long way into getting lower fee's overall. So really, wouldn't it be more prudent to overspend on a truly world class player, and create a world class team so in the long run you get better dibs on subsequent players? Or, we deny ourselves these players and keep entrapped just outside the football elite.

Overspend now, establish ourselves as the big thing and then our name will make it so much easier.

In hindsight I think you are right. Years ago though I'd have been on the side of not overpaying. Maybe if cook hadn't sent that stupid email we'd have stayed on that track?

This would be the most important signing we can make in this window. Forget forward thinking players we need to start getting real about being difficult to score against again and this lad would be key to that.

I actually think pep would consider him just as important in breaking down defences. We need a defender who can pass the ball like Boateng did. It gave Bayern so many advantages in attack and really helped them break down stubborn defences.

There's a lot of defenders we could buy to shore up the defence - frankly pep could just coach who we have to give us a good defence.

But that long range passing and moving the ball very quickly from defence to forwards is a massive part of how pep used to break down stubborn defences in Germany and how he beat teams that pressed with intensity.

At the time I thought we were making the right decision but it's clearly not worked out, I think we need to accept we need to overpay short term now

Seems logical.

But it will deny the stick to beat united with :-)

interesting comments....possibility still there

I agree but at the same time I'm not sure it is over paying. These are the prices. If we don't pay it someone else will. A players value is what the selling club believe someone will pay, they want the highest value and don't care which team is paying it, were competing for the best players in the world with some of the biggest and richest clubs in the world and if we don't someone else will, they're not going to gives us a reduced price because we've refused to pay high fees in the past.

We've missed out on too many players messing around with fees thinking it will help us in the long term. But in reality the fees have stayed high.

We either need to pay what clubs (and agents to an extent) want or we'll continue to miss out... Sanchez, Isco, Hazard, Pogba

I'd love to believe these latest reports - but we know from lots of sources that the Rags are nowhere near getting Pogba - so the fact that the story involves Bonucci and Pogba suggests it's probably all bollocks - unfortunately. I think the Bonucci one has gone quiet and he'll probably stay at Juve - it was a good call and a long shot but we are probably working on plan C and plan D - Wes Brown and Stephen Taylor.

I`ll show my arse in a Woolworths shop window if we sign him.

You mean this fella?...
