He couldn't have done much more than what he did tonight. When the opposition highlight you as the key threat and swamp you out of the game you just have to maintain the width and let someone else exploit the area on the pitch where the space is. He didn't score, so he's shit apparently. Far too simplistic.

Ummm... the main gripe is his laziness in getting back lately and attitude to defending in general.

But because he's flavour of the month he can't be criticised. Far too simplistic.
 
i didnt think we used him at all.
he was hugging that line and screaming for the ball in the 1st but hardly got a touch
 
Just would like a little more "grrr" and a bit more "well it didn't work this time, but in 20 seconds I'm coming straight back, and again, and again...till I beat you", it's been a little too safe and a bit easy from Sane for most of the past few games, I'd just like him to be a bit braver, a bit bolder and have a bit more desire to keep going at his full back constantly. It may come in time.
 
Pep needs to sit Sane down and show him clips of Bale and Ronaldo's progression. He's built very similarly to them and there are no excuses for him not showing the same ambition to better their game all round and I hope to see this starting next season. Sane is far too passive and timid at this moment. Huge fan of Sane but we can't carry both our wingers being subpar with poor backups, won't be winning anything.
 
He plays much better when Silva is in the team. Silva is brilliant at releasing Sane in space.
 
He lives off the wide open run and the incisive ball in behind the defender. He got neither today, and when he had a chance to run, tbf he ran into a very good right back who gave him nothing.

My biggest criticisms are a lack of that "grrr" mentioned above, and him letting his man (Herrera) have a free header from the corner that almost cost us the game. He needs to learn that the game is played both ways, that (in England especially) you can't turn off because even bang average players will punish you, and there needs to be a reservoir inside you that doesn't require praise to allow it to fill up. Yes, he is young and very, very talented, but football has eaten up more than one of those players.
