Leroy Sane - 2017/18 performances

At the age Sane is now, Ronaldo had already been in England a number of years and filled out physically. In his last year with 'that lot', he would simply power passed players, but he was also still doing many of his trademark tricks and flicks. Sane, by contrast, is almost balletic in his movement and looks, if anything, more like a dancer than a footballer. It would probably be prudent for the club to buy a young midfielder who will actually have the pace to keep up with Sane next season, as it's going to ask a lot of the current midfielders to do that.

Top post Gabriel. I'd like you to kind of project how you see his career arch playing out. Personally, I like Ronaldo and I'm not a rag.

There's this debate about is Leroy more like Giggs or a Bale...that's ok if he's fake Ronaldoesque too imo.

I expect Sané's goalscoring will jump up significantly in the next 18 months. Midway through last season I wrote a post, which I've no idea where it is now, about how wingers tend to have this big jump in goalscoring at 22/23 years old. Sterling is the latest example, but it also happened to Ronaldo, Griezmann, Pedro, Sanchez etc.

Sané has pretty much everything he needs to score more goals, we just need to wait for that penny to drop like it did with Sterling and then he'll be off. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were getting 60 goals a season from the 2 wingers in the near future.

Absolutely. Sané is already a quite deadly finisher. I think Mendy being out is the reason why he tends to stay wide to keep the opposition stretched. When Mendy returns we will not need Leroy to be the one who can provide quality deliveries from the left, so he will have a license to play much more in the half-space (much as Sterling has this year). You will definitely see his goal return increase. He is already close to the complete winger, physical attribute wise. His positional acumen, decision making and game intelligence will only improve with time - and even then it has improved immeasurably this season. He is a frightening prospect. By far the highest ceiling at the club currently.

Impossible to say, and I much prefer to see each player for the unique talent and individual he is, rather than comparing with contemporaries or players from previous generations. However, as others above have astutely pointed out, he has the attributes to be extraordinarily special. Mendy will free him from having to look over his shoulder, the World Cup experience will add another dimension to his game, and faster midfielders will mean he doesn't have to turn round to see what support he has. He is blessed with many talents and we'll be equally blessed to see him display them.

He's likely to beat the family man's most productive ever season of 17 goals, he also only broke 10 goals a season in all competitions 5 times. I kind of get the dribbling style being similar but I don't think it's a good comparison.

Interesting that the last few games he's started cutting inside a bit more, rather than holding the width. Creates chaos, and knowing he can easily go both ways the defenders have no chance.

Imagine once Mendy is back, if they get the combination play and understanding right, we'll be devastating on that side. Love the Serling and Walker combo on the right, but for me Sane and Mendy have greater quality in the final moments - crossing/finishing etc.

And for what it's worth i don't see Ronaldo in him, style wise, he's got much more natural grace, balance and agility. Ronaldo, brilliant player but looks mechanical.

When he played for their youth team vs us, he seemed to move around the pitch a lot more & was very comfortable in midfield areas as well as wide.

But I would like to see him tried upfront, as an experiment, right down the middle, with people feeding him passes behind defences.

If Vardy can run through top 6 central defences purely by being fast, Sane is faster, miles better & can double anything Vardy has done.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up playing there at some point, got all the tools. If (when?) we sign another wide player this Summer, should give him that opportunity. Can also easily imagine perhaps starting him wide, then switching him into the middle towards the end of games when we're hitting on the break.

I think we will see Sane used straight up the middle at some point and I definitely anticipate him coming inside more when Mendy returns.
