Leroy Sane - 2018/2019 performances

He needs to improve defensively as there are times when you can see him slow down to a jog and allow his man extra space. He also needs to improve his touch for those aerial passes that are clipped over the defence; you can almost guarantee that he'll miscontrol one of those per game and see the ball go behind.

That said, last night he was flagged offside when he wasn't, some passes to him were a fraction late, and Silva and Aguero need to work better at taking a player out of the corner if he is to have room to run at the defence. When they both wander into the same space and are a couple of yards apart, they offer one less angle and the area becomes overpopulated.

Dilemma for Sunday. On current showings, I would prefer to see Sterling and Bernardo out wide but, as we all know, Sane can produce brilliance in the blink of an eye.

He wasn't great last night but I'd 100% opt for Leroy on Sunday. Chelsea will leave space in behind for him to exploit.

Can't really blame him for getting a pissed off. Its always him that gets subbed and the last 20 minutes when the game opened up would have been when there was finally some space for him to use his pace.

Don’t always agree, for example he was better than sterling at Newcastle and should have stayed on. But last night, deservedly subbed.

Great player on his day but sometimes it just doesnt go for him, like at Everton. Then he gets that "slapped arse face" :)

Sane can be shit all game but still produce a goal or assist with a moment of brilliance. If he hadn't been called for that ridiculous offsides, and Dave slots home his tap in, the whole conversation changes.

He really does need to work on his first touch though.

A really top talent who gas had a few poorer appearances. Teams are also doubling up on him so he's having to check more often.

He does play better with Gabby too IMO, who makes space for those around him with his constant movement

He got piss poor service for most of the game (over hit close passes and airborne cross field passes that he was supposed to pluck out of the air on a sixpence while at 80% speed!) and did some good work defending when needed.

A player who feeds off quality passes that allow him to exploit a defence is always going to be unhappy getting yanked when it is the service that caused the poor performance. In addition, his replacement is often given a much wider berth when they come on and not told to hug the touch line and then get in behind the full back.

He hasn’t signed a new contract yet. I will be very interested to see how that goes, as I don’t think it is 100% that he re-signs...and he will be inundated with offers from the top teams in Europe. If I had to guess...Real Madrid.
