At least we have had a great transfer window... Everton fans not only face the prospect of losing Lescott they could be signing Alan Smith and/or Sir Joseph Barton !!!! Not sure they can afford Barton's wages unless Newcastle pay a chunck of them - I heard somewhere that Barton is on about £70k a week and I'm not sure that that's in line with David Moyes principles. Honestly, after all the horse sh't that Moyes has thrown about doing the right thing and having principles he will get a media bashing like no other if he signs Barton.

reckon gollem,s finalising talks/terms with steven taylor before finally realising he has to release lescott......i,m guessing deal done by thursday...............

I think Moyes is looking to raid Newcastle (christ knows why) - Barton, Smith and Taylor are all possibilities - issues with sky high wages at Newcastle (which Everton won't or can't match) will be an issue and all the rumours about who the new manager will be at Newcastle will hold this up - Moyes has called Shearer, Houghton, Kinnear and half of the league manager's association but none of them own up to being Newcastle manager - so how the hell can Moyes do business in the 'proper manner'!!

Cannot believe that we have over 1300 pages on this overated second choice england defender.

For f**k sake at 22 mill he is more than three times what bacoface paid for vidic.

You will all be telling me next that Lescott is a better player than vidic

City ponder Lescott swap shop
Stuart Brennan

August 18, 2009

CITY will consider a player-plus-cash deal to try to break the deadlock over Joleon Lescott.

The Blues have not made any fresh offers to Everton over the England defender, and are awaiting developments at Goodison Park.

The Merseysiders are expected to change their minds and agree to the sale of Lescott after weeks of bitter wrangling.

City will not increase their last bid of £18m but could be prepared to include Richard Dunne, Martin Petrov or Jo - currently on loan at Everton - in a bid to clinch the deal.

Dunne would be a particularly interesting proposition to Everton as he would be an instant replacement for Lescott and knows the club well after spending the first four years of his career at Goodison.

Everton have turned down two City bids and firmly rejected Lescott's transfer request, but there is a feeling in the Everton camp that the issue is having an unsettling influence on the camp, especially after the 6-1 home thrashing by Arsenal.

Sympathy

Blues' boss Mark Hughes has expressed some sympathy with his counterpart David Moyes.

He said: "This season we have been able to attract some top-level players and maybe he is fearful of the consequences as we chase a top-six place.

"David has made it obvious he is unhappy with the situation and how it has developed, and I can understand his frustration because no manager wants to lose his best players.

"I can well understand that but I am quite comfortable with it in terms of how we try to conduct our business and how we try to make things happen."

The row over Lescott, and the debate over City's new-found spending power has shone the spotlight on the Blues like never before.

But Hughes has told everyone at the club they had better get used to the interest especially after an opening-day win.

"It will be with us from this point onwards," he said. "We have shown we have good qualities which will sustain us on the journey we have started."

Which players would you be willing to swap to get Lescott in? Have your say.
