We do need a creative back up (if Elano goes), but imo defenders should be the priority, and it looks like they (one... who?) could be our next signing

Veloso isn't a creative player though. He's a defensive mid who can play centre-back aswell. Much like Vinnie.

And he ain't that good. Veloso makes no sense for us. Both De Jong and Kompany do the job better than he does. We need players who can give us more offensive firepower, someone like Emana from Betis to give us the necessary creative play and goalscorer from midfield to replace Barry and Ireland when needed. With Kompany, Barry, Emana, Ireland, Do Jong and Johnson, we have the necessary midfield players to challange for a top 4 spot.

You might already know this as I've not had chance to read the forum today , but just to show Lescott did fly out with the team .

We are not looking to add players of Emana quality, I would rather give the chance to Weiss IMO.

Miguel Veloso's agent says we will have futher talks soon, which ties in with what someone said about us looking for a midfielder.

Spot on.

If this happens, we can almost certainly forget about Lescott being released by Everton FC or indeed wanting to leave. We should instead concentrate on Toure. Just watched a re-run of Arsenal v Chelsea from May 2009 and he was awesome. Played much better than Terry.

Lescott is a definite, all the personal terms are agreed but it might just take JL to ask for a transfer and therefore forfeit his 5% cut of the transfer fee - a sum of money he can recoup in the space of a few weeks on his new bumper salary. I am led to believe this is true by a close friend who goes around with JL and friends back in the Birmingham area. Like a lot of City fans I would welcome Lescott but I would not want to sacrifice Ned as part of the deal unless Ned desperately wants first team football and wants to move to Everton. There again, depending if we get Terry (doubt it) or Toure, Ned might still be first choice for City.

Be nice to get him in soon, it's only just over 3 weeks until the season starts & we could be using that time for the players to work on defensive tactics & moulding partnerships.
The earlier we get defenders in, the better it will be for us .
