Leslie Mark Hughes

He's had one season with inherited players and 1 month of transfer window nonsense to get his team together. Whilst I accept a really good manager should be able to work with whats hes's got I think the immediate expectations are too high.To use a (Gail) cliche its a project and this is the start.

Out of interest - where do you guys expect City to be now?

Now is pretty irrelevent, it's all about the future and where he can take us which isn't very far. Watching him mis-manage a very good squad all season doesn't help him one bit.

All these fans that think he's doing a good job must be very good at ridding their minds of some of the defeats we've had this season.

I wish people would get over his rag past and stop using it as a weapon against people who just don't think he's good enough. Great eye for a player but every other aspect of his management of our club is rightly being questioned. I disagree that he's doing a good job; he's doing a shite job. So far stumbling into the last 8 of a cup competition not too many are taking seriously is blinding some people's view of him. After penalty wins against two poor teams from Denmark, beating another team by a goal from the same country and pretty average performances against Twente and PSG we are pretty lucky to still be in the competition but that's the way European tournaments are these days so all credit to him and the team for getting us here. But this run is not gonna fool me into thinking he's the right manager for the long term and performances like last night, although eventually victorious, are not gonna have me changing my mind any time soon. And to be perfectly honest even if we win the competition I still don't want him to be our manager. Our performances against weaker opposition this season have been absolutely appalling and for us to be in and around and even below the likes of Fulham, Wigan, West Ham as well as being a million miles from Everton and Villa represents, to me at least, a shite season!

Even if we win the competition. Fookin hell!!

Do you realise what you just said there?

I'm with jay. Ramos won the Carling cup and was out within the year. Redknapp won the FA Cup and got to the Carling Cup final this year yet there would be hell from a lot of people if he was appointed manager - success in cup competitions notwithstanding.

Its all about what ADUG want and their goals for next season. What we think or want means jack. They have a project in mind and Hughes stays or goes on how he measures up against the project. If they seriously want a top 4 slot then they have to ditch Hughes. If they want a season of consolidation and a shot at the top 7 then ok keep Hughes because if they aint going to appoint a top manager then they might as well stick with what they have.

We aren't going round in circles at all. You just keep saying how you don't rate Hughes. Even if we won the UEFA under him you wouldn't rate him. Seems to me you have your mind made up whatever he does or doesn't do.

So imho, you are going in a straight line with your blinkers on.

I, on the other hand, like to see how things pan out.

Do you have some kind of alarm for every time I post about Mark Hughes? Yes I realise EXACTLY what I said thank you very much. Now tell me why beating mostly below average teams across Europe is gonna see me change my mind about a manager I just don't rate? My ambitions for City are to be winning the league and competing properly in the champions league; Hughes will not do that regardless of whether we win this cup or not!

Do YOU realise what I've just said or are we just gonna keep going round in circles?

Don't take this the wrong way Jay, I an not accusing you of being an actual Rag, but all that you just posted makes you sound like one of them.

I just hope the day never comes when we turn like that shower over there.

Reading your post sent a cold shiver down my spine.

A chimp IS in charge! You want someone who knows what he's doing already, not someone learning his role.
Come on, Bigga. He knows his role and what management is. Any manager in the world would need time to get a squad together and it wouldn't all be peachy until they had.

Ok, so maybe I'm harsh! But, I think my problem is that Hughes doesn't seem to instil anything other than what the players bring to table. Do you know what I mean?

For example, when SWP first played for us, he played along the wing. He goes to Ch£l$ki and Jose has him believing in his ability to play 'in the hole' at some points and the lad was effective.

That's what I want. I want the manager to be able to get the best out of our players for whatever position they are needed in. That takes a skill in management.

I know that Shaun played in mid for us, but being honest, it wasn't too far from what he was doing on the wing, That was just transference. Gelson is a good example. Slung in at right against the Dippers. Hughes should have gripped him for 5mins before putting him on and giving the boy some belief and strict instructions at not going crazy, if he was really convinced to put the boy in that role.

I just don't have any confidence in Hughes.

What about Zab's move to DM? Never playe that position before but Hughes obviously saw something in him to move him up and he's been one of our most consistent performers ever since. Also, Kompany had been a central defender all of his previous career with the odd DM appearance, but Hughes bought him specifically to play him at DM. Inspired really, knowing what we know abot big Vinny now.

I think you are doing Hughes a bit of a dis-service saying he doesn't get the best out of players in whatever position they play in. Those 2 are shining examples.

The man himself says he has played there before.

jay - why is 'now' irrelevant, because if we were currently top of the premiership then this thread wouldnt exist.

And there are thousands like you and I'm glad I'm not one of them. I'm glad I'm not a sheep, I'm glad I can go to games, watch football matches and form my own opinions. I'm glad I'm strong in my view and I'm glad that only 2% of me thinks Hughes has any chance of making us the success I dream of because 1-City will be successful and 2- I will stand naked in the middle of the pitch at CoMS and tell the world I know jack shit about football and Hughes is a football genius. Sadly I think my clothes will still be on my back but I can dream that City will one day win the league and if that's under Hughes I'll be absolutely delirious from a fan point of view but from a footballing point of view it's just not gonna happen because Hughes is not a title winning manager and never will be.

I don't get your point, Macca!

The Waffa is no indication of progression and 'success'. It's a lower end cup competition. Portsmouth won a cup. So did Spuds.

And...?
