lets be honest

let's all convince ourselves that bayern are somehow off the scale and losing to them was inevitable. Seems our players had this mindset too. Well let me tell a different version of events, we were out thought and out fought by a team who individually weren't much superior at all but who collectively were prepared to buy into the coaches methods and apply themselves in a manner that made sure they took a stranglehold on the game early and didn't let up go. not too disimilar to the first 20 mins in bayern 2 years ago, only we didn't get the early goal or the penalty which our play deserved. There's a couple of points about that game too that are all too familiar Hart parrying the ball into the strikers path and dzeko misfiring or failing to control the ball.

starting 11s from that infamous night.
Bayern Munich: Neuer, Rafinha, Van Buyten, Boateng, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Gustavo, Muller, Kroos, Ribery, Gomez.
City:
Hart, Richards, Kompany, Toure, Clichy, Nasri, Barry,
Toure Yaya, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.

I agree, most of our players would get into any team in world football, and our manager could most likely manage any top team in world football.

Mindset and tactics were shocking, simply put we were a disgrace.

I said last night that Bayern are a top top class side, but not that much of a class above to make us look like a pub team.

If you were from Mars you would of thought Bayern were playing a Conference North side yesterday.

my 2 cents of holistic honesty...

we knew bayern are good, and that we had a tough game to play. i hence think its amateurish to say we need to make reviews after our dreadful performance as some people said. the question is why havent we made the necessary plans and played accordingly just like we did when we faced united. city cannot afford to offer displays like that of last wednesday. we dont have a manager like pellegrini and the highly paid players like yaya, nasri, company etc to go back to the drawing board each time and see where we made mistakes. with our current supposedly top notch organization (mgmt, coaches, and players) there should be no excuses for not delivering at a high level, or at least offer a decent display of hard work.

like so many others, i am left baffled at several of pellegrini's decisions, such as putting richards and clichy ahead of zaba and kolarov, and playing almost the whole game with 2 strikers without strong midfield.

So City are akin to an amateur side, yeah?

We were beaten by a team that are the best in the world at the moment. Did you notice when Hart had the ball in his hands, the Bayern forwards stayed close to our defenders, thus cutting out the usual roll to a close colleague while the opposition strolls up to the halfway line?

Did you see how much the Bayern players ran and closed down our guys giving them no time on the ball?

Yeah, I was frustrated as well but after a while, I realised we were being outclassed by a superior team, and when that happens you have to hold your hands up and say 'well played'.

Tactics and attitude didn't matter diddly squat last night as there was nothing we could do about it.

I have never seen a display of passing, be it short or long, as I saw last night. We were chasing shadows.

We were outplayed and firmly put in our place, but to say we are comparable to a team of amateurs is, frankly, ridiculous.

I applauded the Bayern team off the pitch last night because it was one of the best displays of football I have seen in my life.

If MP can't get the players to buy into his gameplan he will fall on his sword soon enough but as mentioned the mindset of our players this season has left a lot to be desired and not all of it stems from what MP is doing or not doing or should be doing in fact very little of it in reality.

If these players are not serious about representing our club with distinction against any opposition least of all Bayern then ship them out at the first available opportunity and replace them with somebody that gives a stuff.

Sides with character don't drop their heads at the first bit of bad luck or mistake someone makes.

Shock horror we concede a free kick against Villa and they score a second equaliser and go on to win , now that can't happen to us the best squad in the premiership , conceding three goals from set pieces against a side promoted to the premiership no way a side with our great players doesn't let that happen to it now does it.

As Trevor Francis pointed out we have a lot of prima donnas in our side that are mentally weak and I call them downhill skiers.

Well as they say when the going gets a bit tough the tough get going and some of our weak minded superstars will be going , going right out the door if they continue to forget that football is more about mindset , application, determination getting down and dirty , FFS we havn't hit the poor weather yet and our players are whinging that Bayern tired us out completely in 30 minutes on a balmy night ( by Pom standards of course ) than anything else.

I suggest our players not look at a repeat of the rubbish we dished out on Wednesday , who cares if it was Bayern FFS and take a look up North and the minnows that are Celtic now they did their fans proud against one of the big boys with Samaras a SP reject leading the line.

Remember Samaras everybody , Edin take a look at him you whinging pansy because right now I would have him in our lineup against CSKA rather than you.

we didn't win last week, we didn't win today....no worries, we're still blues and nobody can take that away. Sure Bayern destroyed us, time is on our side, not to mention all that money. We lost, they were better on the night, move on.....kraut rag fuckers

I admire your positivity but as for time and money...

Time. 3rd year in a row we've had a hiding at some point in the UCL. Feel like we clap at least one European team off the field every season after they batter us.

Money. I was ranting about getting rid of players last night but in the cold light of day we can't just 'fuck off' half the team. They were expensively assembled and therefore are hard to get rid of without taking a hit. Best thing to do is to work with them while they're here, pissing out of the tent so to speak. Look at Barry at Everton as an example, we don't want someone like Hart off rediscovering his form at Arsenal or any of our other rivals.

Just watched the first half again and watching Yaya in particular the guy just jogged around the pitch all first half. There was a reason he was sold by Barca and that is because he doesn't work at closing people down when the opposition have the ball. Now I'm not saying we should sell him, or anything like that, but if a team is pressing us high then he should be dropped, and harder working players should be in his place.

The fact we couldn't get a foothold in the game in the first half apart from the first 5 minutes, then led to no service at all for the front players.

I'm not a huge fan of Toure's defensive qualities but the problem was we were outnumbered in the middle ,we should have started with 3 in the middle theres ,no point in busting a gut to get to 1 player if he has the easy option to pass it on before you get there, once we got Silva and Milner on there was less options for the Munich midfielders so it became a more evenly matched game and also allowed Toure to play to his strengths which is pushing forward not defending, why our managers can't see he's not a defensive midfielder I can't understand.

Passing judgement on a manager, and a team, still adapting to each other is a tad premature, yes it was very disappointing ! And if Hart hadn't already made a tough game nigh on impossible with his early gaff, it might have been a little different ! The team were visibly deflated early on, coupled with a under manned midfield, we buckled, BM went for the jugular, Hart and the defence ushered them in! But if we'd held on like we did in preseason, and rallied like we did, and had a little fortune we might have scraped something....
Alas, all this game proves is that BM are a top, top side, got their tactics and formation spot on, on the night, and we had a tactical lesson,

MP will undoubtedly learn from this, that
a) Hart needs dropping
b) Negredo needs to start
c) we need a 5 man midfield against teams like BM,

I still think we will find our groove midway thru the season, not all doom and gloom, so, we met the best team in Europe, and arguably in world football, got a lesson, better this happens now, so we have time to take factors on board and plan accordingly, as if we progress like we should do, we will meet other strong teams, this time, we will be ready...hopefully!
Remember BM humiliated the great Barcelona in the CL last season, at least we scored!!!!!!!

I will wrap all the previous pages analysis up in one little sentence "Pellegrini is a tactical cabbage !!" Goodnight and sleep well .

Ignore this person.

Obviously a bitter bapper ;-)

No...I disagree........Wrong tactics, Wrong players (Micah, Dzeko and Clichy ....did Clichy leave his own half?) Wrong Formation.....did someone forget to remind Pellegrini that we were playing Bayern?

Lets hope that MP learns and puts more thought into the next match.

i've been watching footy for more than 30 years, that has in my eyes got to be the best 90mins of football witnessed, sometimes in life take yer hat off and admire the champions ,i shook so many munich fans and said 'fair play mate' see you in munich

yep we got it badly wrong but its not often you get to see a team like that, its not any normal side that would make us pay as badly as that, early 2000s Arsenal side up there but they did it V a lot weaker City side
