Let's get behind Savic

I can't help but feel a bit for him at the moment. He's a young lad who is assumingly here because he's impressed the scouts over an extended period of time, he's moved to a new country and a major league, and has been played sparingly. Confidence can't be that high.

Sure, he's been guilty of occasional lapses in concentration, at times very basic defensive errors, but lots of players have at his age. If you look at any other fellow top side there are defenders who either make errors regularly or did do. Lescott was similarly wobbly during the first year of his time here, but given games he was able to forge good relationships with teammates and gained confidence. Phil Jones regularly makes errors for United, Smalling's done likewise on several occasions, as we well know. Dawson was prone to them during the early years of his Spurs career, Kaboul looked dodgy at first, too. Koscielny at Arsenal was terrible last season, but has grown into a reliable centre-half. The same could've been said about Skrtel at Liverpool.

Let's get behind the lad. He might take a while to find his legs, but many others have, too. A clean sheet somewhere, or even just a couple of good tackles in an important game and we build him up from there.

I rate him, he has all the tools needed to be a top defender but is very inexperienced.

To put some perspective on things and I mentioned this in the Onuoha>Savic (LOL) thread: at the same age, the man he is compared to Vidic was being loaned out by Red Star to a lesser Serbian club for experience. Savic is playing in the Premier League and Champions League.

All that said, if we invest in a top defender in the next two windows, I'd keep Kolo and send Savic out on loan to a Premier League side next season. Kompany/new top class signing/Kolo/Lescott/Boyata/Rekik would be enough for next season while we send Savic out for weekly first team football in the PL.

Let's slag the poor lad off. Forget the promise he has shown. I say we boo his every touch in his next match!

Sadly, lots of Blues seem to have rated the lad off already.

Probably the same sort who declared Dzeko a pile of shite after three months, then the best thing since sliced bread when he was scoring most weeks...now a pile of shite again.

looking at the thread title, do you mean let's literally get behind him, in order to cover the gaping holes he leaves in our defence??

I joke of course.

You're right of course pardoe - although Savic = penalty = Carling Cup exit.

I suppose we need to take short term pain for long term gain!

The 35m sub shrugged him off like he was a fly on his shoulder. Not our answer I am afraid. Not trying to sound like slagging him off, but I personally don't feel as if he will ever be up to the standards we now have, and that are now needed in the Premier League. Back up/sub/reserve player, and probably won't be with us for very long to be fair. Will NEVER be a first choice Cb for us, let's face that fact and see him for who he really is. I could be, and hope I am wrong, but don't see much changing.

Carroll was pulling his shirt to begin with, poor positioning from Savic to begin with but watch it again, as soon as he turns the greaseball has hold of Savic's shirt

he could always reform The Verve if he doesn't make it as a footballer ?

Out headed Carrol for majority of the match, with a few stitches in his eyebrow. OK he was nervous after the penalty, who wouldn't be ?
