I've criticised him at times this season (as many on here also have) but it was never the man, or indeed the player, I was bemoaning. Rather it was Bobby's decision to select him for certain games where everything would pass him by and he'd struggle to keep up.
It's cost us, if truth be told, a valuable point of two.
In his prime, what a player! And always a very decent guy too.
It was very apparent that one of the main reasons Vieira was brought in was to be a steadying influence behind the scenes and bring with him a wealth of experience and, crucially, a winning mentality.
Since Xmas I think we've all started to see what a good addition he's been for us.
His performances have really improved; he looks sharper and has a touch of the old Paddy about him at times.
And then there's all the stories of how popular he is with the other players. An avuncular influence over the youngsters, including Mario who seems to genuinely look up to him.
He's never complained, always been constructive and intelligent in his press interviews, and generally is a superb pro.
Seeing how all the lads responded to his goal today was fantastic!
Paddy, you're rightfully an Arsenal legend. But you are also fast becoming a much-loved and respected figure at City too. Please stay next season on the coaching staff and help us get to where we want to be.
