Alright, without cheating (seriously, don't open another window and type in Wikipedia or Google, otherwise the thread will be useless).....what happened on these dates in history........just a few significant dates from the past thousand years of recorded human history, and I am doing this largely for the younger Blues. Like I said already this could get ruined almost immediately, but I thought I would give it ago. LOOK AT THE OP ONLY, then reply, as if you scroll down you will undoubtedly see the answers (hopefully) and thus end the thread.

1066 - Battle of Hastings

1215 - Magna Carta

1861

1871

1914 - 1st World War

1939 - 2nd World War

1989 - Berlin Wall knocked down

Don't know about the other 2 although I would speculate that one is the start of the franco-prussian war and the other is the wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert.

the other two are slightly harder yes, and took place on two different continents, yet not entirely that far apart.

All i can think of is George Washington elected as the president. It's around that time i'm sure of it.
Thinking about it...1648 is around the time of the English civil war i think? Racking my brain for the other one.

1789!!!

You are correct about the Civil War but it was not the start in 1789, something 'arguably' far more important took place then.........................

we shall wait....

More important than the first president of the US? Is it to do with the French?

622 is too late for Arthur and too early for Alfred. Damn my knowledge of history. Good job i'm going back to study it in January isn't it!

Well in the late 18th century the first president of the US was about as important on the global stage as the U.K will be in 2020. On the other hand, the 'other thing in 1789' was/is arguably the most important in history and did a lot more for people around the world than one man did as the first leader (of yes, what was to be, the most powerful nation in history to date.....) of a newborn 'ex-colony' of Britain.

-- Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:34 pm --

...and you are way off with Arthur and Alfred my friend.

Yep Fr. Rev and you can do as you please mate....post if you like, the idea is that once you read the OP you don't scroll down or check the other posts until you have got them all or give up. You might kick yourself or in turn might scratch your head and/or learn something with 622. Bears a lot of importance 1500 years later!!! A lot!!!
