Liverpool will know that they will always sell out Anfield due to the number of fans they have even at £45. They could not charge their own fans that and then allow us to charge £15.
As far as Liverpool go if gate receipts are shared then they would rather have our ground with 30,000 in paying £45 than 48000 in paying £15.
City should be more creative though. Porto wont sell at that stupid time so why not offer fans who buy a Liverpool ticket a free ticket for Porto or something like that.
For me with this turnout its advantage Liverpool which is a shame.
On Sunday, all cup scheme holders are being charged £15 whereas the full price ticket is £45. As it's the FA Cup, gate receipts are split between the two teams, hence the reason the clubs have to agree the price, so allowing for segregation:
40,000 x £45 = £1.8 million for adults
7,000 x £10 = £70,000 for kids
Total is £1.87 million.
So both teams should receive £935,000.
Well if we have 20,000 adults on the cup scheme we have:
20,000 x £45 = £900,000
7,000 x £10 = £70,000
20,000 x £15 = £300,000
Total is £1.27 million.
United will get £935,000 meaning City will only get £335,000, an effective loss of £600,000.
I'm not sure what rules apply for the Carling Cup, especially in the semi-finals as both teams get a home match, but I'd imagine that even if gate receipts are added together then halved City could have done a similar thing for Liverpool and charged a lower price but just taken a smaller cut.
