Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

its probably the side Leverkusen manager would have picked to be fair. lets hope Xabi Alonso sends out his worst 11 when we visit them too.

just noticed on the BBC news there when they showed the goals that Pep gave the ref an angry glare while shaking his hand at full time.

To be fair the ref gave us nothing. Did he give us a free all night?
Yep, couple of free kicks towards the end outside the box immediately spring to mind, but I know what you mean.

I wouldn't make too much of Pep changing 10 players being the problem, otherwise we run the risk of him putting out the same XI as tonight against Leeds for consistency...

Seriously. I think the team may have just about coped with Marmoush and Khusanov being given some game time. That was overkill and then some. Ait Nouri is so bad it's unreal.
He didn’t have to change the keeper, and he really didn’t have to make as many as 9 outfield changes, 4 or 5 fair enough

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah speaking to TNT Sports: "It's an unbelievable feeling [to win at the Etihad] to be honest because coming into tonight, we had a lot of senior players absent even around the dressing room, so the way the boys pulled through, everyone led tonight and that's what we needed. We needed a lot of character and a lot of fight and grit."

On City reinforcements: "We know they've got a lot of world class quality and even the players that started tonight we know they're world class players playing for the countries as well so, it was always going to be a tough task when they came on. We defended a bit deeper than I would have liked to but glad to get the win."

On Leverkusen: "We've got quality players, we're a completely new team, a lot of senior players went last season and a lot of players have had to step up this season. We've got so much quality and so much youth. We've got to try and implement how we want to play the game and we managed to do that in parts tonight."

I almost failed a fitness test tonight but after retaliating with alcohol and paracetamols, I feared the worst as soon as I saw the line-up

Maybe he's looked at the December fixtures and summised that winning the Carabao Cup and finishing in the Top Four is our best hope of success this season

Anything better will just cement his place as a football genius and me as a no-nowt

However I'm one of the few supporters who've attended every European fixture at the Etihad and that number will diminish rapidly if this breathtaking arrogance continues
The lineup tonight suggests he’s not sure which competition the Carabao Cup even is.

Our customary late autumn slump is upon us. Ride it out and wait for our resurgence in the new year when our fresher legs (thanks to squad rotations like tonight) will see us once again peak at the business end of the season

Marmoush - Didn’t get much service but not great either.
Savio - Awful. Horrible.
Bobb - Boring to watch and offers very little.
Reijnders - Poor. Bad execution. Not a good RB either.
Nico - Fine.
Lewis - Eh.
RAN - Rubbish.
Ake - Also rubbish.
Stones - Solid as always.
Khusanov - Not great.
Trafford - Awful.

Will always watch City, I love this club. If we lose we lose it’s part of the game it’s just how it happens.

Just something about that was infuriating - almost like we weren’t trying and threw in the towel.
Losing and throwing a game are two different things; hence why you (and I) are infuriated instead of merely disappointed and sad.

A very strange night all round, you wonder if Pep has a Malaysian online betting account
