Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Well I dragged myself over to the match from work in Sheffield when I was feeling unwell and lacking energy and i still showed more than Pep and Savinho. Bloody disgrace those two were today.

Yes, I'm bloody fuming.

Agree with most of this, however Pep picked them and I’m pretty sure would have been heavily involved in signing them
he picked a team to rest others.....those players he picked are not good enough but he has to play them ......

I think some of those new signings are more a sign of Vianna trying to put his own stamp on the team.....Players like Reijnders, Sav, Khusonov and even Marmoush dont appear to be pep style players at all...technically not good enough for starters. ..Alt nouri is another one to that list.

even more worrying is how many of those players that started tonight actually look like they care.....Id say not many of them....I wouldnt be expecting the likes of RAN, Cherki, Reinjders Sav to run through walls for the team.....that is a huge concern as well as the undoubted lack of quality

Let’s not forget, the “good” players play well, and better, when they’re surrounded by good players. Tonight, Devi d tier players were surrounded by second tier players and it showed.

Pep got what Pep deserved!

Does a goalkeeper need resting?? Seriously?!

Remember when players coming off a bad result needed to get straight back out there to redeem themselves? Well, now THE WHOLE FUCKING SQUAD needs that redemption, and where’s that going to come from?!

We were sitting pretty in the CL. The gig is run at home and try not to lose away. We were rolling…2 wins at home, 1 win and 1 draw away. Get another win at home, go to Madrid sitting pretty in the Top 8, and a potential loss isn’t the end of the world! Now??? 10 points from 5 games SOUNDS decent, but it could very easily be 10 points from 6, which will see us plummet down to mid-table and looking at facing another good club in the Play Offs!

This was a chance to make TWO statements…

1) We can bounce back from the tough defeat at Newcastle, and

2) We are ready to compete in the CL this season!

Instead, we have made the Leeds game a “must win” otherwise we are in the Slot-like crisis!!

I have NO FUCKING IDEA what Pep was thinking, and there’s literally nothing he can say to make me think THAT was the correct team selection for tonight’s game.

This was a game to rest a couple of three, perhaps even four or five players, but not the entire team. Give Khus & RAN a run out at FB. Maybe slide Stones into midfield to relieve Nico (who is bring flogged to death in Rodri’s absence) and put someone (Reijnders or Lewis or Bernardo) alongside him and in front of the back three? Maybe give Bobb a run out instead of Savinho, but the answer to any of these questions isn’t “Fuck it! Let’s give them ALL a rest…except our DM, whom we will strip naked in the middle of the park with no help!”

The patently obvious answer was play an almost full strength team, push to get a lead, then sub off those players not playing well or those the Sports Scientists say they need some rest.

Again, Pep got what he deserved, and the players and fans are the ones made to suffer. And, before anyone trots out his history and record of achievements, “Yes, I know!” BUT we ALL also know he sometimes gets a wild hare and OVERTHINKS HIMSELF, esp in the CL!

Too “smart” for his own good tonight when you look at the performance, the score, and the talent sitting on the bench!

UGH!
Needs reminding from higher up that decisions like these make them feel like he is replaceable.

Confidence is quickly eroded and we have known for a while that we are no longer feared especially at home and easily out muscled just far too slow on and off the ball and easy to defend against.

Tonight shows how shallow our squad depth is and I suspect a number of them will have to improve their output for the remainder of the season to still be at the club next season.

I want to see more fight more desperation it looked like we didn't want to be involved in a match tonight least of all scrapping for wins in 50/50's. Very disappointing indeed.

Leeds becomes important on a number of fronts now.

.
Whether Pep fucked the line up tonight or not, the harsh reality is, with the brutal schedule soon coming in, eventually the bench players will have to play. He gave this match a chance to 10 out of 11 players to prove that they can be trusted. And none of them made a point.

Squad rotation isn't changing 10 for 10 who have hardly played.

He has thrown the lot under the bus then had to bring first teamers off the bench who couldn't change anything, their confidence will be affected too.

That team tonight is what you would put out in a behind closed doors friendly to build up fitness. That line up and result could cost us auto qaulification!

When I saw the team sheet I was hoping for a point. Pep tossed this one off. Felt sorry for the fans that paid good hard earned money for that. If you put out a shit team you get a shit result. Criminal team selection. Can someone please save my sanity and give me a good reason why Savinhio keeps getting picked because it's beyond my understanding.
I wish I’d stayed at home and tossed one off instead after that tbh.

All on Pep tonight. What an absolute joke that team was.

When you start at least 5 players who are bottom half Premier League quality (at best) in a CL game against quality opposition, that's what happens.

Puts needless pressure on the Madrid game now. Win tonight and we are pretty much through. Now it's going to the last couple of games after the inevitable Madrid defeat.

No, sorry mate. Been racking my brain for weeks about how Savinho gets a game - or Bobb for that matter, currently - it's beyond me.

Championship level Goalie, back four and attack. Put a paper thin midfield in the middle and what do you expect? 2-0 defeat? The correct answer is just, "fuck all."

I was 200 miles away watching on a tv and feeling sorry for all the punters who paid good money for tickets and travel to see that pile of shite. Saved my money and travelling for Saturday against Leeds when I trust that normal business will be resumed.

I’m sorry but that was one of the worst experiences watching city I’ve ever had, from start to finish.

Arrived to ground. Barrier system wouldn’t work, the staff were rude to my 65 year old dad.

Went to get a drink. Took ages, forgot about my dad’s bovril.

Couldn’t move in the toilet, surrounded by people smoking.

In the seat, leverkusen fans right behind me chanting, laughing and taking the piss.

Two kids in front of me, literally live streaming the whole game on their phones.

Pep decides to make an unthinkable amount of changes to a team which is supposed to be trying to win the champions league.

I don’t go to every chanpions league match for financial reasons, but what a way to take the piss out of hard earned money.

I’m sorry, but I’m done with the champions league games. Awful.

No shit Pep.....

Man City boss Pep Guardiola when asked by TNT Sports what has been said in the dressing room since full-time: "It belongs to us."

On the performance: "I take full responsibility, still I think the players that started were exceptional players but we missed something needed at the highest level. We now have to fight for the next games."

On what was missing: "They [Leverkusen] were good. In general we did very good things as well, we had more chances than them, but they were half-chances."

On making 10 changes to the starting XI: "I have to accept it. If we win it wouldn't be a problem so I have to accept it that maybe it's a lot but I think playing every two or three days we need to [make changes] but seeing the result, maybe it's too much."

On facing Real Madrid next in the Champions League: "We have time."
