Leverkusen (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

A fucking disgrace.

Not a single player (including subs) played well… special shout out to Savio. No idea what he has on Pep but the fact he completed 90 minutes is truly appalling.

And speaking of Pep… words fail me. Grossly arrogant or incompetent. Neither good.

Any momentum we built before the international break… dead. And big chance we’ve gone right back to last season.

Like I said, a fucking disgrace.

Except some won't have any of that. They don't want to hear it about any player who used to be a standout for us. Somehow, they don't age, their skills don't deteriorate and they "deserve" to finish their careers at City on wages reserved for world class or just below that players.

The same lot probably still insist their Commodore 64 computers are just as good as a new MacBook because it was top of the line the 1980s.
Our CB room needs a rejuvenation but there’s 2 players I'm looking at before I get to Stones.

No shit Pep.....
Amen.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola when asked by TNT Sports what has been said in the dressing room since full-time: "It belongs to us."
I agree that what gets said in the dressing room should stay there, between the players and staff.
On the performance: "I take full responsibility, still I think the players that started were exceptional players but we missed something needed at the highest level. We now have to fight for the next games."
Some of those players are able to slot into a First XI and look exceptional, but what they needed “at the highest level” was quality around them. What Pep has done now is CREATE DRAMA NO-ONE NEEDED when we are already involved in a PL fight and in the late stages of the Carabao Cup, before the FA Cup even starts!
On what was missing: "They [Leverkusen] were good. In general we did very good things as well, we had more chances than them, but they were half-chances."
NEWSFLASH TO PEP: That^^^ Is not what was missing! It was 1/2 yo 2/3 of the First XI!!
On making 10 changes to the starting XI: "I have to accept it. If we win it wouldn't be a problem so I have to accept it that maybe it's a lot but I think playing every two or three days we need to [make changes] but seeing the result, maybe it's too much."
MAYBE?? MAYBE?? Fuck me! And, while YOU obviously have to accept it, because YOU are the one that did it, it is the PLAYERS who suffer, AND THE FANS WHO WERE HERE BEFORE YOU CAME AND WILL BE HERE LONG AFTER YOU’RE GONE! They spend their last penny following this club. They’re not multi-millionaires, but rather people who have followed this club through thick and thin! Hell,100,000 of us went to York (A)!!
On facing Real Madrid next in the Champions League: "We have time."
Deluded comment!

That was like a second helping of a stodgy pudding, when yer didn't want firsts. For twenty mins I thought Leverkusen were there for the taking and had Pep played a few more first stringers we'd have gone in with a lead at HT but once the twenty mins passed we looked as though we had no intention of putting the ball in the net. A really grim, featureless watch. Pep undercooked it, and it looked like it. Leverkusen did the minimum, but did it efficiently. This was a game where weakness was apparent.

Thought I’d got the wrong midweek & we were playing Brentford in the LC, after I heard the team news! May be rest 2 or 3 & give some game time but not 10 changes. Don’t know how many chances we need to give Lewis & Savinho - both not good enough for the level we want to be. Same with Trafford for me but no chance with either goal!

Jury’s out on Ait Nouri, Reijnders, Bobb & Marmoush - all looked poor though could be rustiness! Along with Ake & Kusanov looking rusty.

Nico was left with far too much ground to cover, though not sure he is top drawer - starting to depress myself with this analysis!

At least Jonny Stones played decent apart from the odd mistake first half!

First team virtually picks itself now!

We will finish outside the top 8 now and have to play 2 extra games. Then pep will moan about fixture congestion.

Another frustrating thing is, Leverkusen weren’t even a good team. They were shit and still won 0-2.

They didn’t look any better than Burnley. And we were worse.
That is not the point. We are playing in the Champion's League which we have been told to give respect as fans. Yet the hypocrisy is off the Richter scale when the team that was put out tonight was simply not paying respect to the competition.

Yup, he will play our strongest 11 and we will get beat and all be on here saying why did he do that.

Yes but its Real Madrid away. Everybody expects a tough game there with the very real possibility we could lose. If we had got three points tonight a loss there wouldn't have been as bad.

2 days of my life, £65 in train fares, against one of the worst teams we played so far, and we put in that performance, then we have Marmoush waving his arms at the fans to get THEM going.

I won't be home until about 4pm tomorrow, I'm fuming at Pep for that team, and most of the players who started, I'll give a pass to James Trafford, John Stones, Khusanov, and Nico G who started, and most of the subs as it wasn't their fault.

Has to be the worst performance under Pep.
I don't know how Pep rationalised that to himself. The result was predictable and now he has damaged our season. Idiotic. It seriously makes me think twice about going to the Galatasaray game. Why should we bother when he treats the team selection and the competition with such arrogance.

Pep was saying that it was not the performance they thought they would get and that hes got to take responsibility for that. He still thinks the players that started tonight are exceptional but there's something missing at this level. An incredible opportunity to win but now there's a fight for the remaining games

Real Madrid A
Bodo Glimt A
Galatasaray H

Our customary late autumn slump is upon us. Ride it out and wait for our resurgence in the new year when our fresher legs (thanks to squad rotations like tonight) will see us once again peak at the business end of the season

Disrespect the opposition and you might get a shock as we did tonight.
Disrespect the competition, I don't really care as UEFA have made a pig's ear of it over the past few decades.
But it pisses me off when I pay good money for a ticket and I'm treated to that degree of disjointed shite.
Yeah, I hear you — I really meant disrespect as in it’s supposed to be the trophy everyone wants, and we treated it like a trophy we’d win barnstorming America in July by beating Fenerbache on a hot night in Cleveland, Ohio.

Yes but its Real Madrid away. Everybody expects a tough game there with the very real possibility we could lose. If we had got three points tonight a loss there wouldn't have been as bad.
Exactly, that’s what I’m saying. Play strongest 11 tonight and win then who would have given a fuck about Madrid. Now we will flog the players when it gets to that game in a game that is far harder to win than tonight was. Great management.

I don’t want to jump on the Savinho bandwagon but in the last couple of minutes we had a breakaway and he just jogged upfield with the ball waiting for all their defenders to get back

Also just stood still numerous times while the full back had the ball and stopped waiting to play a ball into him

Result is on Pep though. 10 changes against a team doing better in their league than we are in ours is pure arrogance
