Job done...
Today was always gonna be a tough away match at a League One side with nothing to lose & everything to prove. For City, our brief was to win in normal time, whilst expending the least amount of energy & avoiding injuries. We achieved the first two, & hopefully Nico coming off was more precautionary with Real coming up.
I thought Nico played well for the 20 minutes he was on & Reis was calm & composed in possession. It was concerning how he was licked for pace after a through ball from Orient, but we managed to clear the attack, so no harm done.
The Orient opener was one of those once in a lifetime showreel moments, but ultimately it was an Ortega own goal.
The second half saw the withdrawal of Dias & Reis & the introduction of Stones & Khusanov, again with Real in mind. Khusanov is quickly becoming one of my favourite players, especially after the rugged challenge where he nearly scythed the Orient player in half! :-)
Lewis's deflected shot gave our baby faced axeman his first City goal too, making up for the goal he helped concede two weeks ago. His pace is blistering & he seemed to be suffering no ill effects from the part he played in the early goal we conceded against the Chavs.
I really hope for a goal for Moose to settle him down. You can see he's desperate to open his City account & at times he seems to be trying too hard.
I thought McAtee was anonymous. Unless he scores he seems to contribute little else to our general play, so a major decision needs to be made in the summer, & I hope those advocating the playing of EDS lads regardless of performances or form don't start hyperventilating about it.
Jack's brilliant clip over the top to put KDB through sealed the deal for us. Jack had a steady if unspectacular match & I seriously fear for his future, because we weakened ourselves playing Savinho on the right to accommodate Grealish.
Taking off O'Reilly & playing Bernardo at LB is typical Pep. It's a move which made little sense to me, but I suppose it's a consequence of having only Lewis as a FB at the club. Lewis played very well & it still boggles my mind that he's become the target of criticism by many of his own fans.

We're through to the next round which offers us our only realistic chance of a trophy this season. Hopefully we'll turn a corner form wise & can finish the season strongly by bedding in our new recruits ready for next season, & integrating those returning from injury.
