Leyton Orient (A) | FA Cup | Post Match Thread

Mentioning 'old school " I had the sound on today and noticed the players took the field to Herb Albert and his tijuana brass.

City used to come out to that in the early days of Jioe Mercer so enjoyed that. Still my favourite entrance music !
Bean Bag , also used as the its a knockout theme tune

Unfortunately selling replica kits is BIG business and that takes precedence evidenced by the abysmal "Oasis kit"... shame
It’s one of the smallest revenue streams out of all of them.

Clubs barely sell many replica shirts, even the biggest clubs don’t even top 2 million.

Most shirts sold worldwide are in the fakes market from which clubs get £0.

multiply your 2 millionish by the profit on each one (and add in shorts, socks, training tops etc etc) then add in how much each sponsor will have paid to be on the shirts and I still think it's a big number. All the clubs have to do is get the players to wear the bloody things.

The whole world knows it was a fluke, it was an unlucky own goal and probably a foul on the City player. BUT the media and especially the craven BBC Sport are bad faith actors who take pleasure in perverting the facts to create a false narrative. stone, McNumpty, Shitter etc are no more than jumped up little second rate fanzine scribes, failed wannabe journalists. Pathetic really.
Im sure your taking the piss. I hope so. If not i just wanted to say on record (lol) that was one brilliant, inventive strike..cutting the ball at the perfect three quarter line of the ball to produce just enough back spin to rise and drop over Ortega.. he had a three or four inch window max to do this.. he was 0.5 inch off so it clipped underside of bar.. from 40 yards!! v English champions..unbelievable ..and anyone whose played would know that's not a fluke.. you don't clip a ball with backspin without meaning it!

Can't remember if it was this thread, but someone said that when Kev scored, Marmoush was the only one that didn't go over to celebrate, and they then said 'it might be nothing'

I've just watched the highlights back and he's literally the first person to hug him!

It was a great goal.

I've now seen three match reports and the distance for Orient's goal keeps increasing, with the BBC (Simon Stone) now claiming 50 Yards.
By this this tomorrow, the shot will have come from the Away Supporters Coach Park.

Even more bizarre, Stone then argues that it's unfair on the Orient player to class it as an own goal, despite asserting "Ortega wouldn't have known that if he hadn't tried to stop it, then it probably wouldn't have resulted in a goal"
Report in Sunday Times had Gundo as the player dispossessed for their goal. Do these people actually watch the game. Also their goal was a great strike our equaliser had a huge slice of luck. If Ortega had just watched it sail over his head it would have hit the bar and he would then have caught it. Likewise with our goal if it hadn’t been deflected their keeper would have caught it. Both were lucky goals in that case.

Much changed sides make for more disjointed performances, and we got a bit of that Saturday

Orient were always going to be bang up for it, and City's primary job was taking the passion out of the tie and wait for a couple of goals. To be honest, that's exactly what was going on, but their goal (and it was a foul to set it up) was precisely what City didn't want, some sort of FA Cup magic lob, but we stuck to it

We had most of the ball, most of the chances, and should have won more comfortably. Some players got rest. Yes , there were some dicky performances out there and some dicey defending at times, the pitch was bobbly and the ref weren't great but we're in the next round. We don't win by default, we have to graft. Slot got a taste of that today.

If we scored a goal like that at Anfield we'd have milked it to death.

imagine Ortega not trying for it and it just dropped in..the outrage. Didn't even jump for it blah blah. Fuck it hit the UNDERSIDE of the bar....so was only 0.5 inch off perfection. What's wrong with some on here.. I can only assume they have never actually kicked a ball! Fluke ..fk me that displays such little football knowledge

It was a fantastic effort.. nobody can deny that ..but at the end of the day it's still an own goal..shame it didn't go in from the shot as it was genuinely deserving of a goal for the lad.

Hate to tell but I have kicked a ball at a decent level. Yes he struck the ball well but that’s it. Without it hitting Ortega it wouldn’t have been a goal. Doesn’t matter whether he was 0.1, 0.5 or an inch away from perfection. My point about Ortega just watching it was to show it wouldn’t have been a goal and then everyone would have said how unlucky Orient were.

I was at the game and thought Orient played as well as they could hope to play. They knew our weakpoints and targetted them. They worked their socks off and crucially made very few errors or mistakes in or out of possession. Their fans gave them constant backing and they responded to it.

All credit to the O's.

Excellent.

I get the feeling you’ll put it up with the 0-3 win at Burnley in pre season where Bradbury scored twice.
Nope.
More... City's win at Newport in the fa cup a few years back .
A nothing game to a lot of City fans ( like yourself ?) as we were expected to win easily.....

Here once again I can draw parallels with Orient away on the Sat.

This was of course the mighty Manchester City drawn away against little Newport , on a dreadful pitch,on a ground practically no Blue had ever visited before ,with I'd guess not a single one of our players having the pleasure either . You see Alan, different matches mean different things to different City fans.... each to their own pal. Nostalgia still exists in football for those who are not dismissive of the smaller clubs and where City have come from ...

Watching City at Newport was brilliant another match I'll never forget.
A quagmire of a pitch, really dreadful, possibly watered even further by the home side ...to bring us down to their level.

David Silva was absolutely brilliant that day , controlling the tempo and pace of the game ,whilst Newport went at us like attack dogs from the off,Silva kept his head ,directing operations until ,gradually Foden, who'd intially ...got caught up in the 100mph stuff in the 1st half,.. picked up the mantra from the more experienced Silva and began looking to retain posession and tire the opposition out.....

sure enough as the game progressed ,Newport faded ( A New- port Fades) - joy division, get it Alan?).... and Foden strode forward from deep central midfield ,striding past the now tierd Newport challenges in the 2nd half to score two brilliant goals .

Foden was subbed after his 2nd goal,a real pep trait over the years .....he avoids individual accolades.....and left the pitch with a passing accuracy of 91% ,to a standing ovation from both away and a few home supporters . ( God knows what David Silva s stats were that day ,for they eclipsed Fodens I imagine .

The main thing that stands out from the match tho mr Harper, is the memories of any young ,home ,Footbal fan who was lucky enough to get a ticket that day ...they will always remember the effortless ball control of David Silva and two quite brilliant goals from Foden.

Anymore, apparently meaningless matches youd care to pluck from City's past ; ) friendlies don't count ..

Talking of memories,if your not fast asleep by now mate... it's getting very close to the 45th anniversary of my 1st ever live City match ,ask me nicely and I'll talk you through that match too.............

There was some flute on the radio saying it should be goal of the season.
First time for an own goal so.

Blimey, I seem to be able to get you to write an essay every time I mention a random game.

I look forward to your critique of City 0-0 Sheffield United in 1998 and how that compares to the Burnley friendly.

It was the social club which was the away bar for me, good before the match but some sort of riot at half time with the police not letting anyone in or out so stayed away.

After a weekend in Wales I had enough of the place, then we drew Swansea away next round, even further away and a key game in that treble season given the terrible first half.
