Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

Not that it’s a particularly notable record, but if he gets 3 more goals in the remaining 9 games he’ll break the record for most goals scored in a PL2 season. And he’s missed 3 games due to suspension and he doesn’t take penalties.
That sounds like a notable record to me? And at 18.

After today’s game against West Ham he has 24 goal contributions in 15 games for the EDS. Way too good for that level

He's improving but still very raw.He definitely needs the challenge of a higher level though, both physically and technically.

Has he broken the record then? Don’t know why he doesn’t make the bench. Could be the next Haaland for all we know. Or at least a good third choice striker for now.

A bit of "calm down a bit" in here as well I think.

He has clearly got bags of talent but I just don't know what we do, loans are usually completely crap and won't help the lad. He is built like a house so we don't want some championship manager sticking him up top and whacking it long for him but then he does need better competition than PL2.

Brighton would be the absolute perfect loan move for him.

Graham Potter is a very good coach, Brighton play excellent football and creat loads of chances and yet they are in a relegation fight because they have the worst finishers in the entire league.

Whether they stay up or go down (but Potter stays) it would be a match made in heaven. A club that would develop his all round game and a player who finishes every chance that comes his way.

He'll be 18 1/2 yrs old at the start of 21/22 not much younger than Kelechi or Gabriel when they were first in the first team squad. If Sergio is gone and most likely replaced by an expensive young foreign galactico, there's an opportunity to bring a home grown striker into the senior squad. If he has the patience to allow the club guide him like Phil had there is a definite pathway for him, while benefiting from working with top class players without going out on loan.

I think Bournemouth would be a good move for him
Would love a loan to Brentford if they lose Ivan Toney. They play great football. Celtic could be an option too. Our EDS coach was offered the manager role and their main striker is leaving. Brighton or Bournemouth would be good too

Not Derby. He needs a coach not a pisshead ex rag.
I don't know. Rooney may not be a great coach but he was once an extraordinarily talented young footballer with a bit of a hothead nature about him, which could be a decent description of Delap now. He might make a decent mentor to Delap. Of course he may not be and Delap would stagnate under him, but I think it's worth the club thinking about.

Is the sensible thinking.

Coupled with his Dads connections there,an opportunity to learn and develop under one of the games greatest recent striking talents would be an opportunity our club and the kid wouldn't want to pass up.

Sending players on loan to clubs barely surviving relegation with a novice manager is a recipe for disaster IMO.

There's a very good chance they start badly, Rooney is sacked and the new guy doesn't like Delap for whatever reason.

That's assuming they're even still in the Championship at that point.

Not to mention it's a bit of a step backwards to end up back there 2 years after leaving, and judging by his performance against Derby and the 4 match ban for violent conduct that followed, not a lot of love lost there.

If you're after a Championship loan, IMO all the best ones I can think of come from players going to clubs who finished around the promotion spots who are trying to make another push. Mason Mount at Derby 2019, Tammy Abraham at Villa in 2018, Harrison at Leeds last season, Tosin at Blackburn etc.

I agree entirely,if that scenario is a concern, thean insert a clause to bring him back to cover such.....but on the flip they could start next season brilliantly and he goes on to be a roaring success.
Any loan has its risks,i know you can help minimise but a certain amount of faith is needed, and maybe a lower positione team might be his only option given his inexperience and rawness.

At least a loan is being discussed and he wont be stagnating in the EDS,and hopefully the club have learnt from their previous loans how to get it right.
