Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

I suggest he has a look at where Brahim Diaz' career went after his move there
It would be interesting to know from Brahim where he thinks his career has gone himself.
I'd say he's happy enough to be playing in Italy. There's a lot of who have gone to Spain and not made it.
He took a chance and maybe not hit the heights he may have hoped but not the worst either.
If he had stayed, would he be playing for us now?

I think he's said recently he's pretty happy with how things are going.

His biggest problem has been injuries, nothing else. If he'd stayed fit last season he'd have played a lot at Madrid, but they expected Hazard to be back so arranged the Milan loan, and injuries have been the only negative this year.

Could be the answer to our striker concerns if given a decent chance. Develope this guy quickly.

He's developing brilliantly, other than the right loan.....i dont see how we can accelerate that?

Unfortunately any scenario sees him not quite mature enough for our first team next season.

Seems to be staying put next season and joining up with the first team training. He must be rated highly at the club. Hopefully he can get 10-15 games next season, similar to phil's first year.

If it dosnt work out, after 2 or 3 years hopefully we can get similar money to what Liverpool got for brewster.

I say throw him in at the deep end a few times next season, because he’s more than capable in talent. Give him some experience against premier league defences, and if he sticks it in the net, give him a few more.

I think we’ve proved this season that our team is capable of winning without a headline striker, or even a natural striker, so its not exactly *rolling the dice* with a crucial position. We create enough chances that he’ll bag a goal or two (and finally we might have someone to get on the end of those sometimes pointless crosses!)

Not doubting Pep but Delap seems a prime candidate for a loan to me, not sure how much he's going to get just from training, strikers more than any other get more from playing. Except for early cup games, he's not getting a sniff in the first team just yet, we have plenty of false 9 options Pep would go with before throwing Delap in

Could probably go back through the old Foden threads and find similar posts.

Pep will make the right call and if Delap listens, stays patient and learns he'll be a full international in 2-3 years.

If somebody said to me the plan was to get Messi, no centre forward and use Jesus/ Delap to see how he develops. I’d say sounds a good plan.
No Messi then think we probably need a centre forward this summer. That though might block Delaps path a bit as we only play one, sometimes none.

Imagine we get the league wrapped up soonish - for the remaining PL games would you throw Delap in to gain invaluable experience and see if you can accelerate his development or play Sergio as much as possible to let him end on a fitting high?

I absolutely would play Delap. Mind you, if we had the league wrapped up I’d be playing Sergio alongside him too!

It’s looking like we have a very special young striker on our hands. It would’ve amazing if we focus on developing him and getting him into our side

But he could be our Kane - his instinct for goals is impressive, I’m really impatient to see if he can translate it to the first team - if we do get the league won early, wouldn’t it be great to him starting some league games this season?

If he's to be our Kane, Wouldn't that backup my argument for him going out on loan? Kane spent many seasons out on loan before he came good for spurs.

What we've seen of him from the EDS shouldn't be valued too highly imo, he's physically so much bigger and stronger than his opponents that he can just bulldose his way through if neccesary, I'm not saying that's all he does but when that's there as an option it's hard not to lean on it. he won't get to do that in first team football so will have to work on the other aspects of his game more and him going on loan would hasten that development imo.

No, I’m not disagreeing with you pal. I guess I’m just keen for him to get 3 or 4 full PL games at the end of this season first. If he doesn’t shine, then I would 100% be happy with a loan next season.
However if he does well and bangs them in, that’s when it could get interesting...
Basically I’d rather any decision on a loan for next season was left till the summer.
