Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

Brighton would be ideal for him
They need a goal scorer. All well and good they can move the ball around (when they’re not trying to kick the City lads off the park) but with Maupay at the end of the chances they create, you defo need someone else as an option but I can’t see them hedging their bets on a loanee

Agree, would be a lot of pressure for an 18 year old. Was just thinking of teams that play decent possession football and need a finisher

I know. Despite a slight culture shift in the way football is played (keepers now passing out from the back), the ‘lump it to the forward for a knock-down’ will probably never disappear from English football even if another genius like Pep comes to England.

I can imagine it’s very hard for those at the club to find the right loan as well. The lads are used to ‘playing football’. It’s probably why they are less likely to loan them to just any club and rather have them train with the first team.

I look at the youth team with the eyes of ‘whatever will be will be’. I enjoy the giddiness of witnessing the talented young lads play football. If they make it at City, great. If they don’t, I hope that they carve out a good career for themselves. Nonetheless, I believe the current 5?? being talked about are the ones I want to make it the most.

Possible that city view liam as an option for balls over the top and want to play to his physical strengths. How long have we said we need a plan b in some matches. He'd certainly get all that experience at a club like stoke.

He's a big lad for his age lets be honest.

Dad's in his ear if he's going there then. Dunno whether that's a good thing if he's a daddy's boy and won't go somewhere off his own back and test himself. On the flip side maybe his dad will have the manager's ear and he gets played regularly.

Saw something from his dad yesterday saying he doesn't really get in Liams career, and doesn't know what he'll.be doing this season.

Guaranteed playing time should be the only reason he goes to stoke

well he's first team coach there so I don't buy it. Just don't want him to end up a Leroy and making decisions based on other people's wants rather than what will be best for him as a player.

Yeah I don't buy the Stoke rumours.

Some might think it's logical because his dad is a coach there, but I think it makes it less likely, you don't want to go there BECAUSE your dad is there. It would feel akward, potential favouritism (even if it doesn't exist) might creep in.

And he also just turned 18, there is no rush imo for a loan. Why not keep him in the first team, have him train with them, give him the odd cup game, dead rubber champions league game and see how the season goes.

Then next season, when he will have just turned 19, if we can't increase his game time (for whatever reason, didn't progress as we wanted etc), then we can loan him.

It's also possible after the year, his stock might go higher, and we can get a premierleague loan like Chelsea just got for Gallagher.
