Lifestyle & retirement

I'm 52 and had a plan to call it a day at 55. But my company, who I've worked for, for 35 years used covid as an excuse to boot me out of my pension scheme and stick me in the worst possible....I'm sure there's a thread on here about manchester airport being fairly bad!!!!

Had a bit of an eye opener today, realized I’ve put in all the footwork over the last thirty years, it’s tough to turn projects down. I promised myself not to take anything else on this year but just put in a full blown bid to get a job, not even sure I can find the time or labor to do it.
I can sell anything these days, just not sure I have the product left in me to sell…..

Cut down on the masturbating and sex weekends with Bacon.

My diet contributed to bowel cancer at 42 so I concur. I never planned to become vegetarian but it’s forced me to become a more discerning eater and I feel all the better for it.
Have you found a substitute for bread, that’s my Achilles heel.

I've had a fairly conventional life up to now and never really thought about early retirement.

Whatever one's decision it is important to plan for what you want to do with the many hours of freedom that retirement gives.
If it is just to have the pleasure of not going to work then it will not last and boredom sets in which actually can prematurely end your life.

My big mistake was to not realize that my lifelong habit of saving for retirement or rainy days had actually happened.

Now in my middle eighties I am about to go on my first cruise.
The next plan is to downsize our house and spend the balance.
Hopefully it is not too late for me and the wife to enjoy the rest of our prudent savings in a more selfish way.

Long way to go for me to retire yet but definitely plan on doing so as soon as I can.

I doubt you'd find too many people who retired early that regret it.
57 for me , apart from supporting City & marrying Mrs J the best decision I have ever made
