Ligue 1 Crisis?

Maybe if they had a competitive league they might get the TV deals?

PSG have been the leviathan even before they were took over.
They weren't though, at least not in terms of trophies, they'd only won the league a handful of times.

St Etienne, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux(rip), Nantes, Monaco and probably some more are more historically successful clubs.

Just reading up on Ligue 1 in France, All the broadcasters across the world do not want to renew the deals as they say it has "no value".

TNT Sports which is obviously UK based have pulled the plug on Ligue 1, Spain, Italy, Africa and the Middle East will not show Ligue 1 games.

DAZN is the only rights holder to show it in France, They are charging €15 a month which will get you only 1 game OR €40 a month for all games.

Dark Times for Ligue 1 with no money TV money going into the clubs which will be a huge hit.

The problem started when BeIn (owned by Qatar) started paying way above the odds for Ligue 1 as a way of funnelling money into PSG.

As a result Ligue 1 caught up with the other European leagues a bit, but then covid hit and Messi and Neymar left and now they’re going to have to take a massive cut, but the teams have gotten used to the good money.

I remember 5Live did a special on club finances and takeovers about 18 months ago and they had a lawyer who specialises in club sales and had a few decent ones on his record. He said every single club in France except PSG is up for sale. Both divisions.

I know that their cup games are a bit weird and played in different countries but their top league is as French as you can get so it seems.

Ha ha I meant how many of the French national team players, play for French teams?
