A Barcelona fans perspective.

I hope you all don’t mind me joining in on the conversation given recent events with Messi and more importantly given the circumstance that I have adopted City as my club of following since the day Pep joined the team.

For starters the great news for city fans, Messi is 99% a Manchester City player. Devastating news for our club, but if there was ever a club we would like to see him go; that’s Manchester City.

In the coming weeks it will get a bit nasty between Messi and Barcelona because of the business interest between them and the interpretation of the clause in his contract. Messi understands that despite that fact the expiration date to execute the clause that would release him of his contract on the last year that expired in June; because of covid the season was extended by UEFA and as such so did the clause.

This interpretation is the key for Messi and city. City are in no condition to purchase Messi for any significant amount because of FIFA fair play.

Under normal circumstances one would expect Barcelona to honor him and grant him that liberty of this release of his contract but that is not the case from a financial standpoint.

Because of a series of bad signings after the departure of Neymar and the financial losses do to covid, Barcelona finances are dire and this the sale of Arthur to Juventus in order to finish the fiscal quarter with a balanced sheet.

In order for Barcelona to make recent signings ( Coutinho, Dembele and Griezzman) the executives at Barcelona had to present their own assets as collateral to secure financing and if Barcelona’s president Bartomeu, it would put himself and his executives in financial ruin. Thus the understanding is he will not resign despite the pressures.

This will sadly end with Messi and Barcelona going into a bitter legal battle. Sad indeed.

I believe that this is something that has been brewing for years and now has exploded in a personal confrontation. As a Barcelona fan I’m hurt by both sides, I don’t think the club and it’s fans deserve a fax after and 8-2 loss to communicate that he wants to leave, but I understand his frustration.

please accept the long extensive post but I figured it would be nice to add a grain of salt from the other side and I hope some of the info was useful for some.

If he leaves for city, all Barcelona fans will stand behind you as we already have and wish you the very best and ask that you treat our Messiah like one of your own.

Not really Pep is probably the biggest factor were he to decide to come. For all he knows Pep could get sacked and Messi end up playing the last years of his career under Steve Bruce or Niel Warnock, always best to make sure.
Haha. "Now Leo, I want you to get in the box and be a nuisance. Don't be afraid to put yer boot in but make sure you get your head on those crosses".

This has reignited a bit of the love I'd lost recently of the game. Its made me realise that taking it all too seriously is pointless, we all started off as kids loving football for our own reasons and it was a simple joy back then. As we get older, we still love the game but in different ways.
Even if this fell through, the buzz I've had from it over the last 24 hours has taken me back, and I'm happy that as cynical as I can be, the kid inside hasn't been lost completely.

But he doesn’t track back
