Bartomeu trying to save face but it is stated that some of the board want to sell Messi as well

Surely not a chance that Messi will end his career at Barca due to the state the board have got the team in both on/off the pitch. A massive rebuilding job that will not gaurantee them reaching another CL final

Does he wamt to carry them for the renainder of his playing days - i dont think so

Lets also not forget the underhand tactics the board have used both against him abd other people associated with the club
All the rumours we have heard suggest that Barca effectively pushed Messi out. I don't think they want a poisonous atmosphere in Barcelona between Messi and the club but if they play hard ball over a fee then that might allow another club in above City. That would also depend on how keen Messi is to go to a certain club.

You'd think after 20 years Barcelona would treat their player with much respect and accommodate his wishes.

Verified twitter accounts reporting City are in a good position to sign Messi:

- Rodrigo Faez and Moillorens (ESPN correspondence on Barcelona)

Guardiola and Messi spoke on the phone last week to discuss the possibility of Messi making a move to Man City this summer

Man City are weighing up offering Lionel Messi a long-term contract that would see him move to partner club NYCFC after three years in the Premier League

Marcelo Belcher (Barca journalist who first broke the Neymar transfer)

Lionel Messi wants to play for City

Martin Bajkowski (Manchester evening news)

Messi to City, then? It has arguably never been more likely, but there are enough obstacles still to suggest it is still a long way from looking likely

Guillem Balague (Journalist)

Yes, City could be the destination. But it is too early to say it will certainly be. @lequipe say his morning PSG is out of the equation and the club suggests that to be the case. But it is more a "wait and see" than a definitive no. Inter is exactly the same. And there are more

- Martyn Ziegler (reporter for the times)

Man City have been working for more than a week to try to pull off deal to sign Messi and are seen as frontrunners:

Manchester City have been working for more than a week to try to pull off the biggest transfer coup that English football has ever seen by signing Lionel Messi, according to sources, but they face major financial hurdles

It would be offset with newly structured sponsorship deals. Similar to how Juve did with ronaldo.

Doint worry about it. The club will have it all structured already
Id be very surprised if the club were pursuing this at that price, regardless of where the money came from
