There actually is a very good chance we or another team will sign Messi.

If the conspiracy rumours are true that Roselli and co. are willing to build there 'new Barca' around Neymar than Messi is not going to like this.
Tbh I thought that Neymar would move after the 2014 world cup, my pal who worked in Brazil a couple of years ago when Neymar was just showing his head said that Neymar would one day play for Barcelona or Real Madrid. I thought that was a bit of a long shot but it happened. He said at the start of last summer that he had mates in Brazil still and Neymar wouldn't move this summer but after the 2014 world cup when his contract with Santos expires. But I honestly think that it was we who bid for Neymar (or rather Txixi and Ferran) who knew of Barcas intent and made them bid early making Barca panic and bid a year early.

It's a long shot but with Messi perhaps unsettled at Barcelona maybe just maybe we might have a chance plus with Kun and Zabba ;)

I like you!

I don't think it is down to Messi, his father is his agent and I guess every kid will listen to his dad. We have seen that his father acts in his best interests in terms of getting the best deal for him, he also runs Messi's foundation. The problem for them here is when this clear conflict comes into it, the Barcelona vice president has already said they do not want to up his contract every 6 months but in another word also said that he should be the highest paid player in the world, so really they have to act on that so expect him to 'sign' an extension anytime now, if he doesn't than really anything could happen if the right offer came. His father comes into this because as his agent, he will look for the best possible deal for his son. If City were to offer a deal that shatters his current one.... It is really impossible to say what their move would be, I'm guessing It would then just be down to whether the price is right for Barcelona which I think is the most difficult part. If City were to make a bid that meets the release clause, I see no reason why Messi would turn down City although Adidas might play a big part because he would be playing for a major Nike sponsored club but then again... So are Barcelona?

Messi is always going to be happy at Barcelona but if all of these allegations surrounding his father and the conflict they seem to have every so often with the club become too much then he may be tempted should a really amazing offer come their way, as would anyone.

The good news on our part is that dealings between Txikxi&Ferran and Jorge Messi have been successful. Messi's contract from the 09/10 season which saw him be the world's highest paid player at that time was negotiated between the 3. So if our board members and Messi's dad have a good relationship that will help us if the rumours I said in my first post were true.

Duncan Castles:

Barcelona are preparing to sell Lionel Messi and believe they can achieve the full value of the multiple World Player of the Year’s quarter billion Euro buyout clause. The unprecedented transfer, which would more than double Gareth Bale's €100million switch to Real Madrid, is planned to be completed by mid-2015 once a sufficiently deep-pocketed buyer can be found.

The strategy is based on a pragmatic business calculation by Barca president Sandro Rosell, who has decided that the Catalan club's long-term interests would be best served by cashing in on Messi when his value is at a peak. The forward turns 27 during this summer's World Cup Finals and will have won every trophy available to him if Argentina triumph at the tournament.

Messi's status within the club has grown to a level that has caused internal problems with coaches and fellow players. Even the recently released authorized biography “Messi” includes a passage detailing an incident in which the forward refused to train for Pep Guardiola after the coach substituted him in a match.

Rosell is also conscious of the ballooning cost of employing Messi, who has been seeking a vastly improved new Camp Nou contract since Cristiano Ronaldo was rewarded with an after-tax salary of €21m a year by Real Madrid earlier this year. Though Messi's own terms were improved to around €14m net when he extended his contract until 2018 in February, his efforts to gain parity with Ronaldo have provoked a public conflict with Barca's hierarchy.

Last month Barcelona vice president Javier Faus dismissed questions about a further improvement. “I do not know why we have to renew again,” Faus said. “We do not have to improve a contract every six months.”

This brought an angry riposte from the injured Messi. "Mr. Faus is a person who knows nothing about football and he wants to run Barcelona as if it were a company, and it is not," Messi said. "Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world and deserves to be represented by the best managers as well. And apart from that, I remind you that neither I nor anyone in my circle has ever asked for either an increase or a contract renewal. And he knows that very well."

While Rosell sought to calm the situation last week by stating that he was open to discussing a new contract with Messi, he already has a succession plan in place having committed over €100m in acquisition costs and wages to signing Neymar. The sums spent on the 21-year-old Brazilian, much of which go directly to a company owned by his family, have been a source of tension not only with Messi's camp, but with other senior figures within the Barcelona squad.

I agree, with a built in clause never to sub the mard arse.

It sounds mad to consider NOT signing Messi, if he were available, but is there a scenario in which he could end up being more trouble than he's worth? Some of the things you hear about his demeanour you would never expect from someone like Kun, for example.

Big risks big rewards I guess.
