That's the first piece of news I've read that has me a little nervous.

It isn't news. None of it (apart from messi handing in his request to leave) is. It is all mostly conjecture and partially informed guessing.

It is exciting that some of it might be true, till something official happens, there will be ups and downs, enjoy the ride.

How long is he going to wait until we hear something from him or his agent or father?

Thread needs some proper info.

Did anyone listen to 93:20 pod with Graham Hunter? I’m put at ease after listening to it, dude says the fish is on the hook. So it’s not like this is just a “power play”. Messi really wants to leave and no matter what happens with the Barca board, he’s made up his mind.

Reading the situation, and seeing what reliable journos have been saying so far, this seems too explosive to drag on the whole window. So I expect something concrete by early next week.

I believe it will happen too. Messi is the heart of Barcelona. He has to be given the freedom to do what he wants however this feels like it has a momentum and life of its own. Guardiola, Birgiristain, Soriano may feel obliged to their friend, and I think they will do whatever it takes.

Signing Messi will be a dream however I also believe at the same time that the capacity of the player is declining and people have to accept that. Sure their football club has made a lot of footballing mistakes but possibly because the whole team revolves around him as a player and hence other signings can not fully be integrated into the team? Messi has become larger than life but this cannot be so. At 25-30 anything with a player like this is possible. You make him your crown jewel but what happens now?

I think we may over-commit in signing him. However, whilst I think that Messi's talents are limited, imagine the impact on players and the team around him. They will and should feel completely compelled to do everything they can to win for him and deliver him titles. I started out as an arch-cynic of this deal but I think that this could get out of control and in achieving a dream we may do some damage? We have to be careful and be prepared to draw lines which we do not go past. Of course I haven't a clue what is going on
Personally for me he doesn't need to be the crown jewel for us. Sure his signing is monumental, and huge coup for the club off the pitch with sponsorship, revenue etc and his talent. But he doesn't have to carry us like he has Barca, nor do we fit a entire squad around him. He adds to the squad, and gives us a presence.

For me he takes the right wing, or a false 9 on occasions or drops in to help De Bruyne centrally when required. Messi doesn't need to start the cup games, or against the lower sides, we can manage his games and have him firing for the big games, and Champions League ties. Whether or not Messi wants that I don't know, that's something for Pep to decide on how to use him but that's how I see him being used. Send him out raring to go at Anfield, games like that but being 33 and with our squad he can afford to be rested and managed to get the best out of him I feel.

Also, I know this might not be a popluar opinion but I don’t care if we have to send either Jesus or Bernardo the other way. Those players are always replaceable. 2 years of Messi, the best this sport has ever seen imo, is once in a lifetime thing.
