my first note, 14 years watching messi my heart is broken but it was a matter of when, coming to the blues with pep is like feeling the beginning of a story again, it will make it fantastic to see messi in the english football that both personally admire, see Messi is a privilege, I am Spanish who lived in Whifield (Bury) 16 years ago, my team in England in those days was Rafael's liverpool, now it's the city from the first day that Pep Guardiola arrived in the city, I hope to go very soon Let's see it live when we go to visit the family, my wife is English from bury (the shakers) what a shame many kisses we went to gigg lane, 135 years of history in the vasura we hope they solve something, well greetings to all

Bartomeu can't actually resign btw. Read on somewhere that there’s a clause in the club charter that leaves the board members personally responsible for 15% of the debt they accrued while in office, so they need this last season to balance the books, him and his fellow members.

The total flipside of this saga is Bartomeu could actually want Messi gone as the board have 6 months left and they can, with help of Koeman sign some cheap replacements in, have a huge chunk of money cleared with Messi gone, and go out as the guy who did his best to restart the Barcelona rebuild after Messi, while balancing the books as required. Too much politics at play.

Year later a financial disaster when there is less commercial income, and the blame lays with next president. Win win for him lol

Messi was going to put a statement, wss stopped by his team ( respect for Barça fans etc) as per my previous post.

This is exactly what @tolmie's hairdoo said in the other thread a while back

My Spanish is reasonable and I could ask the wife to help with any nuances I don’t grasp but she’s from the only South American country where baseball is bigger than football. Up until last night she’d never heard of Messi. Kun now that’s a different matter lol.

On your point Four, Bartomeu might want the moon, the planets and all the stars in the heavens for Messi, but who is going to give it to him?

Answer: No one

You cannot demand a price that no one will pay. Unless, of course, that's your intention, you don't want anyone to pay it.

If I'm reading you correctly you're saying this isn't a commercial problem it's a political one.

If everything is designed to ensure Bartomeu's continued dominance either directly or by proxy, then that has to be hammered out between Messi and Bartomeu and if the rumours are true that Messi isn't picking up the phone, then talk of potential swap deals and gazilions are immaterial.

We'll be alright, if Bartomeu does not craft a deal acceptable to City, then we'll walk, we'll be fine, but will he?

No one can give it but it insulates Bartomeu from creditors/lenders, sponsors, criticism (Internal/external) and fuels the continuity project. Losing him for nothing collapses the house of cards

Politics is an enormous influencing factor in football, esp. with Barca

Messi will not continue at Barca, of this I am certain. Just a question of fee (If any) and when since, at worst, he can always walk for free in June (Signing contract in January). Bartomeu is an idiot but he will look to ensure the biggest return possible and as we have seen during his tenure, he is a shit businessman

Barca are in a weak position but are forced to take a stand because of the fans. The best they can accomplish is to get 100m plus Garcia. And that would be hard to achieve.

Imagine they stop Messi's transfer with unrealistic demands, say 200m or 100m plus Bernardo/Jesus. The next transfer window will be just 3 months away and they will be in a much worse bargaining situation, with an unhappy legend in the team. Doesn't really make sense for them to force Messi to stay. It's about posturing now, to convince somehow the fans that Messi is to blame, not the club bosses.

Worse case scenario we sign Messi in January.

I don't understand what's wrong with this cult. The man gave his life and soul to the team for more than a decade. And now they want to cash in on him as he's moving on.

Easy tiger. There's no we in this war, it is them as in Bartomeu & his Núñez cohorts from Grupo Godo

They are corporate clowns, they only care about the money
