Bartomeu can't actually resign btw. Read on somewhere that there’s a clause in the club charter that leaves the board members personally responsible for 15% of the debt they accrued while in office, so they need this last season to balance the books, him and his fellow members.

The total flipside of this saga is Bartomeu could actually want Messi gone as the board have 6 months left and they can, with help of Koeman sign some cheap replacements in, have a huge chunk of money cleared with Messi gone, and go out as the guy who did his best to restart the Barcelona rebuild after Messi, while balancing the books as required.
