There's more info leaking out now that suggest the 'change in situation' is more about strategy than intentions - nothing to suggest he has changed his mind about leaving or going to City. The change is to engage Bartomeu to part more amicably.

The Bartomeu ploy about resigning for him to stay was the first move, this appears to be Messi's counter move. He's the Goat, nothing comes easy in this game of chess & the enormous impact his exit incurs

However good he is, I don't think we should be paying 50m plus for 12 months.

He signs for 2 years with us and them possibly off to NYCFC and the MLS great.

But 12 months, not for me.

It would effectively be the transfer fee, then he signs for free at the end of the season.

I really hope we get Messi, just to see the pundits' and jounalists' piss boil. I'd really love it if he helped us win the Champions League, in a year that UEFA wanted us banned from the competition, just to see the Gills and Parrys of this world know their plan to stop us had failed and we are going to be bigger than even we imagined we could ever be. If I'm really dreaming, then I'd love Messi top help us retain the Champions League too - to win it in both years we were supposed to be banned from the competition!
