I will if he signs. Some of us (I accept not you) are intrigued how it can be done without another FFP fiasco because, personally, I don't think it is worth the trouble. I accept not everyone agrees.

Did you read the article in the athletic? Explains it pretty well. Right now were roughly 100-140m in FFP profit.

Signing Messi and signing Koulibaly are not, and never have been, mutually exclusive. If we fail to sign Koulibaly it will be because of Napoli, ADL and our policy on overpaying.

Besides, it's not as if we didn't suffer a lot from missing chances and a number of truly dead attacking performances last season (Old Trafford, Lyon, Arsenal at Wembley).
Who said anything about Koulibaly?

That's a different deal, you dealing with an idiot in Aurelio De Laurentiis , the club must be aware of that RE Jorginho.

We are desperate for a high class CB and some legs in midfield and that's even with Messi!

Messi's commercial appeal is not "off the scale". We know what a 33 year old Ronaldo was "worth" in uplift terms in a non Covid world and which contracts he uplifted (Adidas and Jeep totalling around €40m plus Juve increased tickets by 30%). We also know what Barca generate commercially vs Real (see for example and can see that it is LOWER than Real which suggests Messi's commercial appeal is not "off the scale".)

Yes we can adjust our Abu Dhabi partner deals but that will again lead to issues. So it is far from simple and people throwing around "commercial uplifts" to explain how we pay €250-300m over 3 years (minimum) are overly simplistic.

Anyway, these are things to discuss. The whole forum is speculation and subjective view.

But we don’t know how many potential sponsors are lurking in the background. We don’t just rely on Abu Dhabi based sponsors for our commercial income and I’m sure we’d be even less reliant on them if Messi signed. I also don’t think that simply comparing the revenues of Barca and Real Madrid debunk the idea that Messi’s commercial appeal is out there on its own. Sure, Ronaldo is very marketable but Messi is in another league altogether IMO.

Not sure if you guys are serious, or these are just poor WUMing attempts.
I think you are, if you think Pep is going to build a team around a 33 yr old.

Messi comes, amazing , but he compliments our team, nothing more.
