Silly hour begins...
Everyone seems to be saying we wouldn’t go for him next year but I’m sure we would, provided there isn’t an alarming drop off in standards. If we’re willing to offer him a 5 year contract, split 3+2 between us and NYC, why wouldn’t we be willing to do a 4 year contract next year? Doesn’t make any sense. We must think he’s good for 3 years in the prem, hence the offer. We can't do that until his break from Barcelona is irrevocable, or we have permission from his club. No doubt he is aware there are opportunities elsewhere.
I find ot hard to believe that Messi can go from such an extreme position to another in 24 hours. Perhaps his father has a proposal from Barcelona and just wants to be polite. It doesn't look good though.
I don't think City will be interested at age 34. it's already questionable on purely footballing grounds. Surely now or never.
Does he get a loyalty bonus if he leaves in 2021? How much would that be?
Nothing has changed. Messi is on strike. His only possible destination is City. The rest is a dance or a negotiation.Nothing is ever done until it’s done and I often use the phrase “many a slip b’twixt cup n lip” to talk about transfers but in this instance I feel like this is more a matter of when not if.
Jamie Pollock likes this postWasn't that one of the most spectacular own goals of all time?
Graham Hunter has tweeted that all that's happened this morning is reporters caught Jorge Messi waiting to get into the underground car park. They asked him 'Are you evaluating seeing out the last year of contract' and he mumbled a reply 'Si'. Most likely just him saying yes so they fuck off. There is nothing in the articles those tweets from deportes cuatro to suggest he has decided to stay at all. They are literally twisting the words Messi's father said when he was jumped by reporters, the "difficult" comments.
The whole basis of him "deciding to stay" is based on what we already know with their own spin on it. That it is "difficult" to stay they have put as "now looking to stay another year". It is complete bollocks. The reports rely on the known info Bartomeu does not want to budge as being the reason they "think", not know, is why he will stay. It is just guess work and spin.
Google translate the links below and have a read for yourselves.
From google translate:
" The first to arrive was Leo's brother, Rodrigo, and later his father did. It was then that the Deportes Cuatro cameras captured the player's father, who hinted at the more than possible option for Messi to continue one more year in Barcelona. ".
They are using those few brief words where he said he has not spoke to City and it would be difficult as teh basis for their reasoning he is staying it looks like. I am not rubbishing the articles because it is what i don't want to hear, there is just nothing to them outside of seemingly fighting Bartomeu's corner with no links to Messi's camp. Even sport.es use the same info to say its not what Barca fans want to hear and it looks grim, in short.

Just as likely he made the video.
Boris Johnson wrote two pieces for the newspaper, agreeing with us both leaving & staying in the EU.
No law says Messi has to release the video.
