On a positive side if we don't get him, getting Messi could halt us signing players for the next 3 summer transfer windows just purely due to his wages irrespective of his commercial wealth he brings into the club.

Maybe the best approach is to go for a player who's going to be the next big thing like Chelsea have with Havertz. We could sort 3 problem spots out in our squad this summer and get Messi on a free next summer. He could still be the best player in the world at 34.

Just a suggestion.

Remember when KDB got pushed into saying he was staying at Wolfsburg?

And then 30 minutes later Patrick de Coster was desperately trying to tell every news outlet it wasn't true, he'd misunderstood a question in German etc.?

Klaus Allofs every day speaking to the media as if he'd never heard Manchester City existed, let alone was buying his best player.

Now that was a good transfer saga.

Players like that don't exactly grow on trees.

I know this sounds mad but Argentinian Spanish sounds different to Spanish Spanish hence why this misunderstanding has happened. It's also lazy journalism but who is surprised by that.

I think it is a more realistic assessment of where we are at.

The exit will have to be stage managed. The starting positions were too combative and everyone needed to dial their attitudes back a little bit. Part of that requires both sides to look like they're considering the position of the other. Which I think is where we are.
How does it get from here? Both sides must be thinking they are winning.

Interesting if he says ok I'll see out my contract but not sign another one. Barca are then faced with the same situation we had with Sane and Garcia. They're in dire financial straits, would be a poor decision to you afford to pass up the opportunity of a €100m transfer fee?
A bit late in all of this but it does beg the question of why Messi hasn't hired a better agent than his own father to facilitate his exit better

Trust is difficult in this game and Leo is super cautious in that regard but surely there's an agent that could be better served to deal with a scoundrel like Bartomeu

It's a question of trust, isn't it. Imagine the sharks who were sniffing around him when he was a kid. No doubt they could use some help now but they mustn't have anticipated Bartomeu's reaction.

Tbh I suspect no matter when the break clause was triggered Bartomeu would have challenged it somehow.

SSN just had a good debate on the future of Messi. All in an agreement that Messi's time to leave has got to be now. La Masia is La Missing, his best mate Suarez is leaving the club and nobody knows who's coming or going at the club. They all said he would be better off at a club with a stable future ahead, which would appear to be us.
