Anyone think Pep may be aware of some sort of deadline set by Messi, and Pep is now trying to throw a spanner in the works of Laporta?

No Chance, Pep want's Messi to stay at Barca. He's said it umpteen times.

If we do get him, it won't be down to Pep.

Messi is playing in the Copa America. Fuck all will be decided until it's done, and maybe another few weeks after that.
Doubt it will be a few weeks after that. Think once this weekend is out of he way then. All parties will need to know one way or the other.

I've said it before, why the fuck would he stay there?
Last year you had all the circus with him and his interview, his concerns about the direction the club was heading. This year they are even more fucked! A total joke.
If he genuinely signs his next contract based on the football project then it certainly won't be resigning with Barca.
If he stays there then what was all that shit last year? Was it purely a Bartomeu thing?
I think it was a Bartomeu thing,a parting shot if you like.
He knew that forcing Messi to stay would cause this shit storm, imo.

He has indeed.
But,Messi is now a free agent, and that ain't down to Pep.
If someone of Messi's calibre become available, especially on a free, you try and get them.....regardless of what you thought was best for them.

I mean more that it's only logical that if Messi stays now after all the fuss he made last season then it was purely because he hated Bartomeu and was fuck all to do with his concerns over the state the club was in. Given how much of a shambles they are now.

A considerable number of posters still have great difficulty in believing, or cannot believe or simply refuse to believe that Messi can or will leave Barcelona. Others are sure Tebas and la liga will engineer a way to deal with Barcelona's financial problems so that Messi can remain at the club. It is time to open up minds, shake off these rehearsed responses and consider the very real possibility that Messi's future is not at the Nou Camp. Consider for a moment that Messi no longer wishes to play for them and thus any tricks Tebas, Laporta or anyone else dreams up to show that Barca are awash with money are likely to have no impact on the situation. It is entirely possible that Messi's transfer request last summer was, as he himself said at the time, the result of some years of frustration and dissatisfaction, that the club were aware of his discontent and yet had (and still have not) done nothing to help change his attitude. Millions have been spent on team rebuilding but the only player Messi valued was hounded out of the club last summer - and promptly won the title with Atleti, while Barca finished third. His resolution remained firm and he is no longer a Barca player. That's the situation: Messi meant what he said last summer and he still means it. There seems little evidence of a player so deep in the Barcelona way that he will not, and cannot leave the club he has already severed his ties with. And there's little sign Tebas can do anything about it even if he wanted. And it doesn't matter how much Messi is worth to la liga if he decides his days in Spain are at an end.
