Including 9 goals and 2 assists from non-competitive matches is doing just that. Those have never counted to players' numbers. Add to that excluding Haaland's international goals in an actual competition, yes, it is exactly what it is. It is dishonest. And has been pointed out before and all.
I meant one can report the numbers in any which way, he still posts impressive numbers. Easily a top 10 player in the world at this moment even with not playing a lick of defense. I'm not suggesting we should bring him aboard, but if by some chance we did, I wouldn't be pouting about it...just sayin'.

Oh that is one thing that I can wholeheartedly agree on, and wasn't debating, he is a great player, has throughout his career had incredible numbers, and even in this below standard season, that happens to be the case.

But the poster went out of his way to further inflate Messi's goal contributions. But 51 goals and assists, in all possible competitions and competative internationals is still pretty damn impressive. Just not as impressive as Haaland's 70 goal contributions.

Would you bet on that? I hope you are right of course, and I'd very much like to see him stay in Europe. But I think he will follow the money, unfortunately. Just like Ronaldo did.
It doesn't depend on Messi, unfortunately. If it were up to him, he would have already signed with Barca, but La Liga just won't allow it.

Folks saying "well, why Messi just doesn't play for free?" have no idea how this thing works. La Liga has rules that limit the amount of paycut a player can take according to their previous contract. Messi is willing to accept this absolute minimum, but even for that Barca still can't afford him. They have to make some major moves to add Messi.

Didn't answer my question though.

Yeah the playing for free arguement is daft, I agree with you there. But you are also falling for some good hearsay propaganda. Besides, Messi hasn't had a contract with Barcelona in over 2 years now, so he could sign for whatever amount (not free), they agree on. As with any club in Europe.

You seem so sure he won't go for the money, where do you expect him to go? I'd love it if you were right, and he chose football. Don't think it will happen.

Messi, Ronaldo & Benzema, all with something still to offer but going to the wastelands of Saudi football instead for money only.

We are his best chance to win another Champions League in his career (he has 4, can match Ronaldo with 5), maybe also come close to breaking the goal record of the tournament (11 away from Ronaldo, it will take him more than one season to do that) An exciting union with Pep, for one season, I'm in.
