if this does happen, I anticipate it will be quite quick.

Barca will want there money and wont want to annoy there fans by looking like they are blocking there best player ever who has given decades to this club from leaving

In 2016/17 City went as far as to sound out sponsors to see what they'd pay extra if Messi arrived. I wouldn't rule out the possibility we have it written into our Puma contract that it goes up or is renegotiated if he arrived.

Adidas redid their deal with Ronaldo when he arrived (as did Jeep etc.)

it was 100% never going to happen then.

I had proper, as close as you can get itk info right at the time. Someone I knew was directing him in a commercial. Messi at the time was absolutely livid over a perceived lack of defense by Barca for his tax issues. But he never once mentioned leaving. City were at best sat hoping it would escalate.

How would he play with us?

I'm assuming not as a false nine, nor as an inside forward. So I guess he'd play as a false 8.
But don't we already have Bernardo and Foden to cover the left-footed CM role left by David Silva?

Don't we have other areas we need to address on this transfer window?
I'd rather spend the money on a right-footed CM to cover for De Bruyne in case he's unavailable. Maybe Thiago, maybe Aouar, maybe someone else, I don't know...

If we're gonna splash the cash let's spend it right. And don't get me wrong, I love Messi, I just don't think he should be a priority.

Has it moved on that much since we became the first team to win every domestic trophy, or the first to 100 points. Or have we just had an off season?

That team was nothing like Pep’s Barcelona though, was it? Two orthodox wingers, a proper destroyer in midfield, a traditional centreforward. It’s Pep’s attempts since to make it more Barca circa 2010 - with inverting forwards and a slow Busquets-lite midfield anchor - that has seen us decline from that peak.

If we sign Messi, KDB should go - the team has to be built around him now, not some mercenary dwarf who sees us as nothing more as a well-paying circus. Give De Bruyne the captaincy, legs around him in midfield, and a proper goal machine ahead of him to maximise his assist potential; he’s earned it.
