It's fairly well accepted that City have had a Messi plan for years that is outside of anything else they might do. Exactly what it entails is not entirely clear but there's little doubt that the club's income would increase if Messi arrived. And it could be that part of the commercial side of the plan would involve sponsors paying Messi directly. I'm talking about totally legit activities here.

Messi would still become our highest paid player in respect of what the club pays him directly but not even KDB is going to think he should be paid as much as Messi.

I don't think it's worth worrying about anyway as it remains exceedingly unlikely that he will move to City It's the stuff dreams are made of but if the supporters of MCFC can't dream, who can?
Alphonso Davies would be my dream signing, Mbappe. Possibly Kante too.

More than anything I want City to be the best side, win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mbappe is impossible but there are defensive players we could get if we pursue them, and prioritise appropriately.

I believe we have to sort the defence out before we consider a player like Messi otherwise we will just be a Barcelona MkII.

Some will say we can do both, or they aren't linked, but I read Koulibaly is for sale but at Napoli's price so transfer budget is an issue. From a footballing point of view, addressing the defence is far more important than replacing Bernardo with Messi. I prefer Bernardo, Foden and KDB to be honest.
Any way we are lookig for a good CB and a false 9 who can play behing striker like Felix/Martinez. Who else better than Messi? He wont cost that much as well. Welll he is a bit older but still he offers so much to us.

Yes I do because I compare their current ability and potential next season against Messi's current and future ability. KDB and Foden produced against Lyon and Real Madrid. If you buy Messi you play him. Whose shirt does he take? Foden's, Bernardo's? Messi is on a downard curve and has been for some time. Bernardo, KDB are capable of being a Ballon D'or winner next season. Foden is in that category potentially. These are players who were part of a near perfect side and could be again - if we sort the defence out.

You say signing Messi doesn't stop us buying Koulibaly or other essential defensive buys but every recent transfer window we've lost targets because of budgetary reasons.

Bernardo Ballon D’or? Nothing against Bernado but he was struggling to get a game ahead f Gundo and Mahrez this season.

I know that. Defensively we are weak and hence Pep overcompensates by playing defensive midfielders to cover for a weak central defence. Find a Kompany and Fernandinho Mk II and you get Bernardo, Foden and KDB in one side and don't need Messi.

He would take Mahrez shirt, cutting inside from the right side.

Doubt it will happen, but nobody could argue that wouldn't be a huge upgrade.

I get your point but I’m yet to see us look any stronger defensively with those 2 together as opposed to us having 2 8’s that can run and press. Obviously David was no longer able to do that but Foden or Bernado would have no trouble with that role.

I reckon that if we were to get Messi, we'd go to something like a 4-1-3-2, with Rodri/Gundo as the 1, 3 of Kev, Messi, Bernardo, Foden & Mahrez as the 3 with 2 of Torres, Aguero, Jesus & Sterling as the front men. Or a 4-3-3 as we played against Real Madrid but with Messi as the false 9.

Hopefully I'll finally be able to take my shirt off and show off my full back tattoo.
4 years I've had it now and living in the sunshine is hard work when you have to leave a top on all the time...

I'm not sure. Abidal and Messi were very close friends, that's one of the reasons he got the job in the first place.

But when Valverde was sacked, Abidal had a go at the players, and Messi basically said, "You can have a go at the players when you're doing your job well". Abidal apologised and said he shouldn't have gone public, don't know how they've gotten on since.

I love the defence myth. We conceded 1 goal more than the best defence in the league. We may have conceded more chances but that’s down to a weakness in defensive midfield. I’m not saying we don’t need a defender, we do and we’ve got one maybe another coming too.

The real issue in my opinion is the number of squandered chances in tight games.

In my opinion anyway.

I'm quite certain it pleases him but it's nowhere near enough much less significant change - he's the 4th SD in 5 years

Whatever currency/trust he had as a player & in the dressing room was burned by his behavior as SD, he sold out and you can never walk that back.

There so much damaged within the club under Rosell & Bartomeu that I wouldn't know where to start but there's no question Abidal's fall from grace cuts deep for most cules. Ultimately, a yes man
