It's an interpretation.

And also it does not stop barcelona, Messi and City agreeing a deal between them. Which is what most thought would happen anyway.

The line of reasoning seems to be that the clause expired on a certain date, that didn’t take into account a pandemic extending the season.

Regardless, of the legality of this, it seems wrong to use a technicality to prevent Messi from utilising a clause he was promised. That does appear to be a shabby way to treat a club legend.

IMO, this is all about the Barca board saving face, especially after the surrender of La Liga to Madrid and the humiliation against Bayern.

They cannot be seen to allow their prize asset to leave for nothing, but at the same time, the longer they keep their prize asset, the more they alienate him and possibly the fans.

I think they’ll end up accepting a bid of £50 million + Garcia and Angelino. Both players will be valued at about £35 million each to allow Barca to claim they recouped £100+ million for him.

Unless Messi backs down, I don’t see any way Barca can keep him and if they turned down a decent bid for him, that would give Messi even more support.

If someone lives near Birmingham, can you please go and smack that c*nt Mark Goldbridge's face for me. He rattles me so much, apparently nobody is talking about the Messi story according to him.
 
Guys, I wouldn't worry too much about this. La Liga is just trying to save their image.

It still doesn't prove much. Messi still has a case with his free contract argument. He wouldn't release a statement or missed the tests otherwise.

Barcelona and Messi are technically right about the contract. Both have cases, but due to COVID, the contract became null and void. Also, Bartomeu stated back in 2019 that Messi could leave before the 20/21 season if he chose to. He earned his right to leave..... and that they wouldn't stand in his way. Bartomeu is just angry that Messi is actually going through with it.

It still won't change Messi's mind.... and if anything, it just proves Messi is right all along. Bartomeu promised him last year he could leave, for free, before the 20/21 season. Bartomeu has no respect. I do hope we take his fool to court after all is said and done.
